His bones were positioned to created the mountains we climb and claim today, but his skull became the sky, keeping us safe from the other evil gods trying to destroy the world they created and his brain was torn apart and made into clouds, as another small source of protection if his skull was ever to be broken. The sparks from Muspelheim became the stars we all admire and study today. And the dwarves were created from the maggots that ate, crawled, and infested Ymir’s flesh.

The Importance of Earths Creation

From all of these acts of creation and the earth itself, all of the gods established their place in the universe and also the beginning to shape the world according to everyone’s individual will. This whole story and creation of the world is one of, if not the most important part of in the story of Norse mythology, as it explains and establishes the origins of most if not all of the gods and the world they inhabit and why they inhabit it, but it also sets the ever growing stage for all of the other future gods and legends that make up the story that makes up all of Norse mythology.

The Start of The War

According to the legends and myths, the war began because when the Vanir group of gods sent a few of their gods, Njord, Freyr, and Freyja. They sent them to live among the Aesir as hostages. But in return for the Vanir’s. The Aesir’s sent a few of their gods, Hoenir and Mimir to live among the Vanir’s. However after a while the Vanir discovered that Hoenir needed a “more decisive leader” and Mimir’s “guidance to make decisions.” The Vanir’s feeling cheated on, they beheaded Mimir and sent his head back to Aesir. The Aesir group of gods being outraged by this horrendous act of anger, declared war on Vanir, and the war began.

The Ending of It

Not a lot is known about the war itself and the events that happened during it, but what we do know is that the battle lasted so many years with neither side getting a clear and set advantage throughout the years it played along. After many years, the two groups of gods agreed to a truce and gave each others gods back to their respective groups. But, this time Vanir sent one of their gods Kvasir, in respect for the Aesir they killed. Kvasir was known for his wisdom, so the Aesir gods killed Kvasir and used all of his blood to make a magical mead that would give incredible knowledge and inspiration to anyone who drank the blood that bled from his body.
