The activity could be for students attending the secondary school (17-18 aged) or adult learners.
The picture could be used to introduced the topic of the war and in particular of the IWW.
At the beginning I would ask students what they see in the picture to raise the interest in the topic. Then I'd try to elicit the words they already know on the topic by the brainstorming techinque. Finally I'd ask them to describe the place and guess how could have been the soldiers' life in trenches.
