Question 2: Self-Motivation Quiz

I scored 28 out of 43 on the self-motivation quiz. The website's response said that although I’m not failing, I could be doing better in that field. To be able to achieve my goals, I should increase the motivation factors in every area of my life. I think only get motivated in situations where rewards or competition will be present. On page 364, “Achievement Motivation'' would be the perfect definition to describe my scale of motivation. I am competitive and consistent with doing well in math, but in ELA I don’t try too much, as long as I’m passing with an A in the class together. One day though, we had an individual project that would be the final for the semester. It was called a “bloomball” project based on the project we’ve been reading for the month. I was going to wait to start but she mentioned extra points for one that looks presentable and how she’ll keep them in her classroom. That immediately caught my attention. I started working on it the day we were given the rubric. We had to draw pictures and make it all colorful but matching each part of the book. I finished the assignment within the first two days, I put everything I had into that assignment so that way mine would get chosen as one of the assignments. There wasn’t a competition towards who would win but a couple picked to leave instead of throwing away after grading. But in the end, mine was one of the ones chosen for keeping and it wasn’t worth the time spent rushing to complete.

Question 3: Self-Confidence Quiz

Based on the “Self-Confidence Quiz” on Mindtools, I scored 33 out of 51. I am not failing to recognize my skills and believing my abilities but am be a little too hard on myself sometimes. This is causing me to stop getting the full benefits of the “mastery experiences”. Based on the definition of “self-actualization” on page 411, I think that self-actualization is something I lack. I’m not allowing myself to realize and express my capabilities and passions in my life. I believe that I tend to seek validation whether it's from others or just validation in many different fields to know that I’ve done something worth my time working on it. I try to remain within my comfort zone and try new things because of what the results could be. This can keep me from achieving new things in life or finding new things that I’ve yet to learn.

Question 4: Defense Mechanism

I tend to use the defense mechanism “intellectualization” a lot since I’m a quiet person who doesn’t socialize very much. One thing I think that I struggle with is speaking up about how I feel. There was a certain friend who I was close with at the beginning of high school. Although she was selfish and self-obsessed, she would still have a tiny bit of feeling towards how others are thinking. During this time that I was friends with her, we worked on a group project together. She hadn’t been focusing on the lesson for the past week. She wanted her idea to be the one chosen. I’m not saying her idea was bad or anything, but she could have at least listened to what I wanted to say. So instead of explaining my feelings, I shut my mouth and focused on her ideas and thoughts towards the assignment. But I’m grateful we aren’t close anymore. I think after not being close with her I learned my lesson of choosing my friends.

Question 5: Chapter 13 Best Information

I think the best piece of information in chapter 13 that really stood out to me would be the different types of “Major Anxiety Disorders” and their factors. This was mentioned on page 428 with a diagram that shows the three different major anxiety disorders that people struggle with. I think this piece of information is the best piece because people don’t realize how many different types of anxiety disorders there are. Everyone knows the basic one of panic disorder that comes along with the symptoms of dizziness, difficulty breathing, and intense anxiety. But I don’t think many people knew that phobias were a major anxiety disorder.

Question 6: Topics I Found Interesting

Two topics that really stood out to me this semester were the “Sleep-Wake Disorder” in chapter 5 and “Stage 1: Sensory Memory” in chapter 7. The topic of “Sleep-Wake Disorder” stood out to me at first because of the discussion based off of that chapter. But later on, as I kept reading through the textbook and researching for that project, I found new information about sleep-wake disorders and the number of different types of disorders. The other topic that stood out to me is “Stage 1: Sensory Memory” because I found it cool how simple information we are taking in goes into different stages to hold the memory. The idea is that a visual image stays in sensory memory for only one-half of a second before it fades away. This stage I found the most interesting out of the 3 stages.

Coming into this course I was nervous and anxious because of the work provided and how difficult the tests/exams would be. But now that we’ve reached the end of the semester, I’ve been able to maintain the grade I wanted since the beginning of the semester. But I do think that we quickly went over the chapters with so much information to take in. This made it a little hard to remember things. But I think it’s just me and I’m slow when remembering or learning new things. Overall, I think I enjoy taking this course and the information I have learned.
