December is highly important to the utopia Jonas lives in because this is when ceremonies take place. These ceremonies are as important as any other holiday that takes place in December for anyone else. December is the time when the children turn different ages groups such as a Nine or a Twelve. This month is a time of brings changes and sometimes bigger changes depending on the group, which is why December holds such importance in this world.

Apples are symbolic of this utopia that Jonas lives in. The grown apple, the sweet apple, represents the good times in life. When new children are assigned to their families or when children change groups and when Jonas is about to get his assignment in December. The core of the apple and the seeds are the bad times in life. This is when there is bad release for messing up. This utopia is supposed to be perfect, but it can't always be that for the times when mistakes are made. An apple is always experiencing life. From the time it was a seed, to the time it was being picked for being eaten, it has experienced the good times and the bad times in life that had to be forgotten.

They are differed and the group with start bellies over power and can intimidate. However, the world of the Giver doesn't care about differences. the people in this utopia care about everyone and their differences are not favored or noticed. The Sneetches and the world of the Giver are different because of the way they value differences.

The utopia the Jonas lives in eliminates certain things for perfection by taking pills. In the book, Jonas started to get Stirrings in his dreams and his mom explains that he soon needs to take pills and/or get therapy. Also, she explained that he isn't the only one. Soon, Lily and other female Elevens will get it soon. The utopia is trying to eliminate getting Stirrings because finding love is forbidden. If Stirrings start to come back, this could be bad and the dose of pills has to be adjusted.

Unsuccessful Utopias Vs. Giver Utopia - Question 1

Although the author of The GIver probably didn't mean to have aspects of a failed utopia in his utopia, but there are definitely some parts of failed utopias in Lowry's utopia. In some failed utopias, some characteristics include little to no choice, wanting to leave, no biological children, and social class. The utopia in the Giver also has these. Parents are not allowed to have their own offspring as they are given their own children (allowed of only 1 boy and 1 girl) and jobs are designated and one cannot choose for itself. Certain night jobs depict that one's social class is low because they are said to not be that good with love.

The utopia that Jonas lives in might stick around for a little longer. When Lowry was creating this utopia, he only had in mind of certain problems that needed to be solved. However, these solutions create even more problem that haven't been thought about. Over time, the residents of this utopia may become bored because of the lack of choice or freedom that they have when doing everyday tasks such as doing the same job everyday. When a few years pass of people being unhappy and bored, they might find ways to escape or find ways to get released. Everyone will start following this trend and this utopia will come to an end.

The Receiver's house is much different from everyone else in the community because there is more detail in the furniture and there are hundreds of books covering the walls that no one else in the community has. A major difference is that the door to the Receiver's door has a lock. Locks on doors in the community are never seen nor applied, only on the Receiver's door to ensure more privacy. These differences are even a thing because the Receiver has the highest of power in the community. He has all the knowledge of past lives of the world and the Receiver must have enough privacy and comfort to be able to think.

Jonas has obviously only lived in his community where he is sectioned off from the world to be in a "perfect society". Since this is true, he only knows what he has seen. He only knows about the type of weather or land that is in his community, and nothing else. He doesn't know what snow or a hill or trucks are because he only has perfect weather, flat land, and bicycles in his community. He does not know that there are more people than just him and there was more time that what he is living in now. This could be a good way to live because then Jonas is not thinking about what happened in the past and he is not comparing the good things that everyone else in the world has to what he has. Comparing can make people stressed and unhappy, which is a bad way to live life, just worrying about the things you don't have and what happened years ago.

Jonas is surprised when The Giver turns the speaker off and locks the door because he has never even seen a lock on a door and he is not able to turn his speaker off. The Giver has the most privacy in the community so that he can work and not make mistakes so he doesn't fail the community. From this, the privacy of normal citizens isn't valued and cared for as much. This society is meant to be perfect, so the idea is that everyone has the same privacy and there is nothing to hide because of sameness.
