In the 1980’s after the previous owner Loren Freid had gone to a blue jays game, he had wondered where all of the hot dogs that had been cooked but not bought would go when there were thousands of people scattered around the city in need of food. That was where the idea for the North York harvest food bank came from. They are well known throughout Toronto for all of their achievements. Families across northern Toronto received 180,000 healthy food packages donated to the people through their many member agencies. Many previous volunteers have had nothing but positive things about the charities work and the environment that they provide. “Suddenly, kindness becomes the motive for raising my ambitions. Here is the center for volunteering and making an impact of changing lives-- without you knowing it.” is a very positive quote from somebody who had the opportunity to volunteer at the food bank and had nothing but positive things to say about it.
