It allowed / incentivized sheriffs to seize free Blacks in the north to be made into slaves in the south without due process.&nbsp;The 1850 Compromise allowed new states in the west to choose whether they would be a free or slave state.</div>]]></description>

On their multiple trips and busses they were attacked by southerners infuriated by the non-segregated busses. The governor of Alabama, John Patterson heightened tensions and even avoided a call from the president.</div>]]></description>
