The second obstacle is about letting down your loved ones and leaving them behind.  In this song  Demi Lovato talks about leaving behind someone she loves because she knows she is hurting them and she as things she has to do. She doesn't want to let her/him down so she knows that she must leave them behind to go forward and to take stress off of them. " His parents had wanted him to become a priest....But ever since he had been a child he had wanted to know the world..." Santiago knew what his parents had wanted for him but he had to follow his own dreams, even if that meant letting them down.

The Alchemist taught Santiago a different way to view the world. After learning from the Alchemist Santiago started to understand the true meaning of things. “Yes, that’s what love is. It’s what makes the game become the falcon, the falcon become man, and man, in his turn, the desert. It’s what turns lead into gold, and makes the gold return to the earth.”  He saw things in a different way and started to understand things more clearly. He made connections to the world that others usually could not.

One of the things that helped Santiago achieve his personal destiny was following omens, or signs from God. “God only rarely reveals the future. When he does so, it is for one reason: it's a future that was written so as to be altered.” God revealed the future through omens that guided Santiago through his journey. Some came in negative ways and some in positive. In this song Sam Smith states he should have listened to the omens he received while he could, because they would have helped him make the right decision.
