"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" can be used to teach the days of the week. It can also be used to learn about the theme of a story when teaching literacy. For example, the story follows the caterpillar through its life cycle stages and describes what food it eats on which day. Also, the book teaches that the days of the week repeat, when it puts emphasis on that it was Sunday again. This worksheet can be used to help students follow along with what the caterpillar eats each day as well as its progress through the cycle.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" can be used to teach good nutrition. For example, the caterpillar eats a different food item each day. The caterpillar eats an apple, pears, plums, strawberries, oranges and much more. Also, the book infers that if you eat too much food in one day, you'll end up with a stomachache. It can also be used to learn about the conflict of a story when teaching literacy. These images can be used to allow students to make their own version of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" using the same life cycle and food.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" can be used to teach the life cycle of a butterfly. It can also be used to learn about the plot of a story when teaching literacy. For example, the story starts off with the image of an egg on a leaf. Next, a tiny and very hungry caterpillar pops out of the egg. After the hungry caterpillar was no longer hungry, he built a small house around himself, called a cocoon. Lastly, he bit a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and became a beautiful butterfly. This worksheet can be used to help students follow along with what stage the caterpillar is in throughout the story.
