Hurricane Charley:

Hurricane Charley hit on August 13, 2004, in Florida and is a category 4 hurricane. Hurricane Charley caused 377,000 buildings to collapse and 16.9 billion dollah bills in damage and caused 10 deaths in total. The people of Florida were not ready for Hurricane Charley because it turned east last minute. Most of the country of Florida did prepare for the hurricane-force winds due to the rapid intensification of the hurricane at the last second. People prepared for the storm because the rapid winds caused so much damage (16.9 billion dollars in damage) that if they stayed in the path of the hurricane, more people would have probably died. People prepared by boarding up windows and doors, stocking up on essential supplies, and following evacuation orders. The rapid forces of the hurricane easily knocked down houses, making them HAVE to board up houses and stock up for survival. The area hit by Hurricane Charley has better improved safety precautions by building shelters that can sustain wind speeds up to 200-mph and that are safe from flooding. There have also been improvement in operation centers, storm prediction technology, and evaluating tidal surge.

One hurricane that has occurred over the last 100 years is, Hurricane Emily. It was the fifth named storm of the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane. Hurricane Emily occurred on July 20, 2005. This Hurricane was categorized as a category 5. Emily made landfall in Northeastern Mexico, and affecting various states. In Florida it affected 683 primary homes, with 168 homes destroyed, 216 uninhabitable homes due to major damages, and finally 144 uninhabitable homes due to minor damage. Hurricane caused 3 losses of life in the Dominican Republic lost their lives. In Jamaica, damage from the hurricane totaled J$ 5.98 billion (US$96 million) and five people died related to a vehicle accident and floods. In Haiti, flooding from Emily caused ten fatalities. People in Mexico prepared for Emily by evacuating tourists and locals, from Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Cozumel areas. Although in Florida they had little to no warning about this powerful Hurricane. People have improved the hurricane safety plan by a lot, since the tragedy hit of Emily. Identify levees and dams that may pose hazards is a huge way that has improved it due to the water levels getting out of hand. Stay informed and follow local authorities' instructions, so that they can stay safe or only have little to no injuries. Proper preparation and safety measures can minimize risks, so that people can hurricane proof their homes and know out a plan on how to stay safe.

They secured their homes. Some people evacuated. People prepared for the worst. Florida put 1 billion dollars in hurricane preparation. Some areas in Florida there are levees and walls. for if it floods. Florida overall put up walls and levees. So if a hurricane comes Florida will be prepared.

on Labor Day 1935 an unnamed hurricane hit Florida causing devasting aftermath. The hurricane was classified to be a category 5 hurricane which is the strongest type of hurricane. I had a windspeed range of 75-155 miles per hour! However, there were over 400 deaths. People were unaware of the storm so when they knew about it, it was already too late, so they had no time to prepare. Here are somethings people have started doing because of this devastating hurricane so that next time they will be prepared. Stay informed and follow local authorities' instructions.

Take shelter in secure locations during the storm.

Check with the registration office or visit the Florida Keys website for information.

Leave the Keys first for safety reasons if a storm threatens.

Seek advice from locals who have lived through storms.

Take measures to protect yourself even if you can't prevent the storm.

this hurricane was one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded.

Hurricane Florance, 2018, category 1. Hurrican Florance caused 24.23 billion dollars in damage. Hurricane Florance caused 54 deaths. People did prepare for hurricane Florence in many ways. First, people kept their attention on local evacuation newscast. They also followed evacuation procedures from local police. Another example is federal law enforcement officers assisted in rescues. They also secured facilities and shelters. Some safety measures that people are taking into consideration after the hurricane is by closing off flooded interstates. They also constructed levees and dams. Also, put community evacuation plans in place. Then, they taught people these evacuation plans so that they will be more prepared for the next hurricane (if there is one. Also, the cities and communities planned better health and wellness so that they have food and water for survival. They also needed more batteries and flashlights for people to get to safety during a hurricane. Hopefully, Hurricane Florence will not affect the communities hit, and maybe they will be better prepared next time. Also, (fun fact), Hurricane Florence caused snakes to escape from the local zoo. This made the illusion that it was raining snakes! The snake that were "raining" were venomous making this hurricane a bigger threat.

-Carson Harris

The hurricane I chose to research is Hurricane Katrina. it hit in 2005, and its category was 3. The damage was worth $186.3 billion, some examples of the damage are: massive flooding due to levee breaches. Hundreds of thousands of people displaced from their homes in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Alabama. Also, more that 1,800 people lost their lives as a result of hurricane Katrina. Nobody prepared for hurricane Katrina due to the lack of foresight, communication, and leadership. Also, the confusing directions from the authorities were a huge part as to why people weren't prepared. Some people drove in their cars to a hurricane exit route. But elderly and unwealthy people stayed, having to accept their fate. 1.) Follow evacuation orders issued by authorities based on wind speeds, flooding potential, and other hazards associated with the storm. 2.) Stay informed about safety procedures during the storm. 3.) Know what to do in the aftermath

It was not a very bad hurricane, only being Category 1 at 90 MPH.

Hurricane Iwa had a few casualties, only killing 4 people. One person was killed directly by the storm, while 3 others were killed indirectly. probably because of the floods.

People were not fully prepared for Hurricane Iwa. This is because it was said to not be as powerful as other hurricanes. This made people think they didn't need to prepare as much as they usually did. But the hurricane did cause pretty bad destruction, and power outages. Because of this, the people decided to prepare more for hurricanes.

Since people underestimated Hurricane Iwa, (Even though it was only Category 1), calls were made to change government safety protocols. After a while, a fund called The Hawaii Hurricane Relief Fund was created. This made sure that people affected by hurricanes would be helped afterwards, there were also a few other changed protocols, but there is little information on them.

The hurricane caused mass flooding due to weeks of rain only 13 people had passed during hurricane Elsa. Although the hurricane only killed 13 people it was still quite dangerous causing over $1 billion in damages. Although people knew it was coming it seems that not many had prepared. There were little warnings sent out to people and news broadcasts so it may have not gotten out well enough to prepare. This may cause us to prepare more people for up coming hurricanes.

The damage was worth 108 billion dollars and 1,833 people were killed during hurricane Katrina people did prepare for Hurricane Katrine by evacuating from coastal areas in Louisiana and Mississippi. People did this because they did not want to get hurt and did not want to die from this awful Hurricane. And if they did not evacuate then they prepare by gathering a lot of food and water to they went somewhere safe. they wanted to be safer for the next Hurricane, so they learn by making a plan and by finding levees and dams in your area and determine whether they pose a hazard.

Hurricane Matthew caused at least $6 billion in damage in the U.S., making it the costliest hurricane since Sandy in 2012. In Haiti, the damage is estimated at $1 billion, equivalent to 11.4 percent of the country's GDP3. In South Carolina, the public damage was nearly $341 million, with about $100 million going to state-owned roads

Hurricane Katrina, which struck in August 2005, was one of the most devastating storms in U.S. history, reaching Category 5 status at its peak. It caused an estimated $108 billion in damage and resulted in the tragic loss of 1,833 lives. Despite early warnings, many people, especially in New Orleans, failed to evacuate, either due to a lack of trust in authorities, uncertainty about the severity of the storm, or socioeconomic factors that made evacuation difficult for lower-income residents. The evacuation process was disorganized and unequal, with transportation and shelter options insufficient for those who needed them most, which caused confusion and left many stranded when the storm hit. In response to the devastation, New Orleans and surrounding areas have made significant improvements to their hurricane readiness. The city invested heavily in upgrading levee systems and flood defenses, ensuring stronger protections against future storm surges. Emergency response protocols were revamped to improve coordination among federal, state, and local agencies, and evacuation plans were revised to better accommodate vulnerable populations, including those with limited access to transportation. Public awareness campaigns were also launched to help residents understand how to prepare for future disasters, and more emphasis was placed on making evacuation orders clear, trustworthy, and accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status. These changes were vital in increasing preparedness and ensuring that future storms could be handled more effectively, minimizing the loss of life and damage.

Hurricane Katrina was a devastating category 5 which happened in 2005 of August 29. Hurricane Katrina caused catastrophic damage, particularly in New Orleans, Louisiana, where levee failures led to widespread flooding. The storm resulted in nearly 2,000 deaths and displaced over a million people along the Gulf Coast. The economic impact was profound, with damages estimated at over $160 billion, making it the costliest hurricane in U.S. history. In the days leading up to Hurricane Katrina's landfall, authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for New Orleans and surrounding areas. Many residents heeded these warnings, but a significant number remained due to factors such as lack of transportation, financial resources, or awareness of the storm's severity. The city's public transportation system was inadequate for mass evacuations, leaving those without personal vehicles stranded. Additionally, some residents underestimated the storm's potential impact, leading them to stay behind. The failure of the levee system caught many off guard, highlighting shortcomings in disaster preparedness and response. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, significant efforts have been made to enhance hurricane preparedness and safety in the affected regions. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers undertook extensive projects to strengthen and reinforce levee systems to withstand stronger storms. Evacuation plans have been revised to address transportation challenges, including provisions for those without personal vehicles. Public awareness campaigns have been launched to educate residents about evacuation routes and emergency procedures. The establishment of emergency shelters with adequate supplies aims to accommodate displaced populations during disasters. Additionally, the development of early warning systems and improved communication networks ensures timely dissemination of information to the public.

The hurricane hit New Orland's on August 29th, 2005. It costed $108 Billion dollars in repairs. One of the reasons it was so bad is because New Orland's didn't have time to prepare for it. The reason why is because it originally wasn't going to hit New Orland's, so they weren't ready for it. Also, most families didn't have anywhere to go or have any family near them.

Hurricane Katrina caused 1,392 fatalities and damages estimated to be around 125 million dollars. When Katrina hit no one was prepared for its destructiveness. Reasons why people were not prepared are by getting confusing directions from the authorities, perceiving racism, having faith that they could ride out the storm, poverty and lack of access to transportation. People have improved hurricane readiness to ensure people are safer for next time is by getting to adjust in emergency management to be able to improve response and coordination, increasing preparedness through defensive measures and resources, and lastly people have enhanced safety and security for the people of America. Overall, Hurricane Katrina was a dangerous natural disaster that has made a huge mark in history.

After Tip hit Japan, it didn't take them to long to rebuild maybe around a month or so to rebuild. Tip is mainly known for its size which is 1,380 miles wide. The category 5 hurricane caused 200 million dollars' worth of damage without even making landfall. Luckily, no reports of death were confirmed, but the effect from it should have.

Hurricane Nate from the year 2017 was a category 1 hurricane caused $787 million dollars' worth of damage. Hurricane Nate caused 48 deaths even though people were prepared. People should prepare for hurricanes because preparing for hurricanes is crucial because they pose significant risks, including strong winds, flooding, and potential loss of property and preparedness can minimize the impact of these devastating storms. The people wanted to go somewhere with less chance of getting hurt than staying unprepared and upscaling the risks. To enhance hurricane readiness and safety in Cartersville, GA, the area should focus on evacuation route planning, building reinforcement, emergency kit preparation, and community awareness.
