The Cost Of Living is when over a period of time essentials such as food, bills and everyday essentials increase more than the average. 9.6% of goods and services rose in October 2022 and this became the fastest rate in decades because everything had become more expensive because of how much the cost of living has affected Great Britain. The Cost of Living also created massive impacts like Brexit, because we left the European union this made the pound coin become much more valuable which caused princes in the UK to go up. Another thing which was affected by the cost of living is Covid, this is because there was different types of supply issues which created everything in shops to go up in price, this also made it hard to find certain items like toilet paper etc. The last thing which had a massive impact is the war against Russia and Ukraine, Because of the war this meant that the price of oil had increased and also it was hard to export things such as food, metals and gas.

Social Changes

Because of Social Changes many things have grown in population, for example Cruises have became very popular in the UK 46% of British people have said that they are interested in going on cruises in 2019 which is a massive change and also changes cruises for the better. Out of all age groups the younger generations are said to be the group of people who are mostly interested in sea cruises. The older generation are living longer due to better healthcare, as a result of this older people are feeling more abled to go away on holiday. There are some tour operators such as SAGA holidays who only specialise in holidays for the over 50's.

Technology has helped the Travel and Tourism Industry loads, it has made it more quicker, safer and efficient. For example technology has introduced Global Distribution System which was introduced in the 1960s, because of this people are able to connect with online network suppliers which provide Airlines, cruise lines and hotels. For example this will show how many seats are left on the airline you are book on, Which hotel room you would like and how many people can use that room, You'll be able to access information about the airlines, hotels and cruise lines that tourists are able to book from. Because of tourists being able to access certain information about what they are booking they will be able to book certain things that they are looking for in a holiday.

Brexit has affected the travel and tourism industry because it has made it more difficult for people from different countries to come over to the UK and work here, The only way they'd be able to live in a different country is to get a Visa. It has also made it difficult for people to travel to and from the UK as there are new passport regulations.

Covid had affected the travel and tourism industry massively, In 2020 travel agencies and accommodation companies had received a massive downfall of tourists booking holidays and hotels, Because of the massive impact of covid this meant that it wasn't safe to travel until they could find a way around it. But, In 2022 When Covid had settled down there was a plan set in place to allow people to travel once again. The difference was: People had to stay 6 feet away from each other so this meant in queues they had to stand in a certain place to keep away from other people who were travelling, They had to wear a face mask at all times even during their flight, There was hand wash placed everywhere which you had to use, On the plane you werent allowed to sit near other people or families only your own household if you were travelling with someone from your household, Passengers had to isolate for a certain amount of days to be able to travel and make sure they didnt have covid, Passengers had to also do a covid test before they headed to the airport to make sure they didnt have covid. In 2023, Covid had settled down and some of these rules died down like being 6 feet away from other passengers in your household and also the face mask rule was gone as there wasnt many people who were getting covid.

Because of all of the changes that cruises have made over the past few years to grow their age range of cruises, It is said that in a few years time cruise market will grow at a fast pacing making more tourists pick cruises over going to a hotel overseas and staying there for a few weeks. In 2019, the cruise industry had been said to hold over 30 million passengers which is more than what would be expected of cruises as cruises were mostly held for the older generation. Cruises have also developed most of the ships to accommodate different ages, for example Disney cruises are aimed for families as there are many entertainment for families such as: Dining with Disney characters, Food that you'd find in the Disney parks, many activities that the family are able to do together and also it holds a waterpark on the boat. Also, on a few more cruises they have added activities that all ages can do such as, Escape rooms, water park, entertainment and night clubs. In 2023, more people wanted to go on cruises to have the experience of travelling to different locations and also relax while doing so, Because of the increase of different generations going on cruises other than the older generation this has made it so on each cruise ship they are able to provide some sort of entertainment for everyone who goes onto the cruise so that tourists are able to have a good time.
