If I could have an exotic animal as a pet, I would have a musk deer. I think it would be a good balance of cool and practical, as it's about the size of a dog and I feel like it would be simple to feed/take care of, yet it has vampire teeth.

The exotic pet I would choose is an ocelot. They are not too big, and I love cats. It would be a bigger cat, but one that is much less likely to eat me than a tiger.
