I have recently completed my job as a Grad Assistant at GMU, and am continuing to bartend at Pub and Kitchen in Philadelphia, and babysitting for a family with two children, while being a full time school counseling grad student, so needless to say I am busy. I will be working less hours with the bar and the kids as I will be starting my internship at Plymouth White Marsh High School and Paul Fly Elementary school in the fall. With that being said, my ever growing family is my savior. Not pictured is my boyfriend, pictured is our pooch Samantha (the dog in the middle) along with Harley and Rocco. We are incredibly involved and supportive of each other. My now 10 month old niece, Penelope, is a lucky little sweet pea to be apart of the Latronica Family, and we are incredibly lucky to have an addition! We take a fourth of July week long vacation to Long Beach Island every year (although no fireworks this year because of rain, but the rest of the weather was amazing!) and just enjoy hanging and being together as often as possible.

I have always been involved with sports such as soccer and volleyball but my true love was track. A fun fact is that I went to the Penn relays with my 4 x 1 team, I think that's when I knew I wanted to move to Philadelphia which I've been living in for 10 years now. I run regularly with Samantha and just as a stress relief. We are all so busy and with that brings stress, but we need to remember to take care of ourselves, which will prove to be incredibly true when we become educators and counselors. I also have a fun sense of humor, hence this picture. A good sense of humor will get us through almost anything that comes our way!

Practices and Goals as a Counselor

There will be many strategies that I will implement as a counselor because as we know, every student is an individual so different approaches will work for different students and scenarios, but solution focused therapy is a method that I have been most attracted too. The idea of not focusing on the problem but on the solution keeps the issue and the focus positive. It facilitates problem solving and appropriate decision making. It also empowers the student to take control of their future and the steps they take to get there.

Our main objective as educators are being advocates for the students. Our goal is to provide all students with a safe, equal, and encouraging environment to promote lifelong learning by implementing a curriculum in partnership with the faculty, staff
and administrators at all levels of academic, social and emotional development. I am learning more and more the importance that research has on being advocates for students and other school staff. The more we engage and work to better ourselves and our programs, the more we learn efficient and exciting ways to educate, grow, and stay relevant.
