There are many gateways of spirituality and each one has a different perspective of what it means to be spiritual. The spiritual gateways consist of intellectual, relational, contemplative, activist and creation gateways. One of the most powerful gateways that I explored was the relational gateway where Mother Teresa demonstrated the meanings and ways of this particular gateway. By helping those in need particularly children, dedicating herself fully to her works and establishing for organisation. She is religious but also spiritual as seen through her actions and compassion to the less fortunate. The activist gateway also shows vividly the works of justice through participation and spreads it through a social arm. Dorothy Day displayed this kind of spirituality through her key role in the early 1900’s in the Catholic worker movement.

Year 7 Graduation Ritual

My year 7 graduation ritual took place in November of 2014 and both year 7 and 6 students graduated on the same night. I attended I Catholic primary school, St Anthony’s Kedron, so as part of our graduation we participated in the catholic tradition of a church service which was centred around the idea of new beginnings and growing up. the celebration of the Eucharist was shared with the celebration of graduating. Parents, family members and he students attended and the Little Flower Church across the road from our school. By including the Christian tradition into our graduation made it more realistic about what we were experiencing. The church symbolised to us that Jesus and God are always looking over us and with them living with us we well be looked after by them. We participated in the ritual of Eucharist and sang songs that were specific to what we were undergoing. Including the catholic tradition ritual of attending mass it added a new depth and meaning to the graduation.

It made me realise, while seeing the beautiful nature this amazing country had to offer how it was bought to my attention how lucky I was to attend a school that offers such amazing experiences to its students.

After I came back from New Zealand I went to the beach and I had the best time swimming in the ocean and the hotels pool. I love the beach, and I would say it is my favourite place in the world. I am grateful for the country that we live in and the long beaches and the rolling waves that is branded with our country.

I went down to Melbourne for my birthday to watch the Australian open. Melbourne is so pretty with old buildings and the Yarra river so close. The tennis was amazing, and I was reminded how lucky I am to have parent like mine who work so hard to provide and care for my sisters and me.

Spiritual Song

Justification
The song This is Me from the movie The Greatest Showman sung by Keala Settle is very powerful. The lyrics in the song just show how one needs strength in order to reflect the haters. The line “But I won't let them break me down to dust” shows that she is aware of the hate and has turned her cheek and continued to fight through the negativity. Another line that shows this is “I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I'm meant to be, this is me” explaining that she is not ashamed of who she is, owning her individuality. To build this kind of barrier for internal strength comes after long sought hours of personal reflection. The better spiritual connection a person has with themselves the more likely they are to have a stronger personal acceptance. This acceptance is the work of mind control and spiritual connections to your own spirit. This emotional and mental connection is a very important factor in order to build a strong internal wall. To achieve this, relaxation in the morning or at the end of the day will get rid of excess thoughts that bring your self-confidence down. The connection and the lyrics of this song are very relatable for many people as we all have flaws that sometimes hold us back from our potential. To eradicate this, we need to reflect on our thoughts during the day that help build a strong internal barrier to stop all the hate in the world from getting to us. Spiritually finds its way into everywhere and carries the same message with it. To clear your mind of negative thoughts and replace them with thoughts that will help improve your outlook on life and the way in which you step out from the shadows and see the world.

Luke 8:14

"The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

Justification
This passage by Luke shows how people are too caught up in the world around them to notice the small important inconsistencies occurring. The spirituality of a person is shown through the way in which they act. If a person is connected with themselves and have defined who they are then they will be able to notice the small things in life. Luke is explaining to us that more people need to slow down their lives and connect spiritually to themselves in order to recognise others needs instead of just their own. The more spiritual you are the more likely you are to concentrate on how events effect your human spirit instead of worrying about materialistic things in the world. To be spiritual you become more aware of happenings in the world. Like the seeds being thrown into thorns and people ignoring them is a representation of people forgetting the important parts of society. Spirituality helps you connect and become more aware of what is happening in the world.

Colossians 2:6-7

6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,

7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Justification
Just like faith spirituality strengthens you. As God lives in you and strengths you from within, also teaching you the way of His life. Spirituality describes the feeling of God living in you. The reflection and the calming of the mind in spirituality strengthens you and as a result you are a refreshed feeling like a new person. The benefits of being spiritual is the feeling of recognising all that you are thankful for. The overwhelming feeling has you experiencing the world from a new experience like how God encourages you to see it. Both spirituality and faith are similar in how they teach you to see the world from a new angle to appreciate everything. This appreciation strengths you inside and flows out to the outside for everyone to see. This strength is a very important part of the mental and emotional connection to your spirit, as it helps you build that relationship and helps you concentrate on your spirituality. Like faith, spirituality builds the internal strengths to form new beliefs and make you as a person appreciate the world.

The labyrinth walk opens your mind and heart. The labyrinth is meditation under gone by walking the path of prayer. It is a path with no dead ends and no ending point. You can never lose yourself in the labyrinth, it is a tool to help you reflect, meditate and pray. To walk the labyrinth, you enter and leave the same way. You follow the winding path which allows you to focus on your thoughts. The walk grounds your body, quiets the mind and opens the heart. Many people who participate in the walk find answers to long asked questions. The peacefulness of the labyrinth encourages people to connect spiritually to God or lets them reflect on aspects of their life.

Justification
The labyrinth is a very spiritual practice that many people walk to connect with their spirit. The winding endless path is peaceful, and calls walkers to reflect and connect with spiritual happenings in their life. To reflect and calm your thoughts is a hard practice to learn how to do. By calming your thoughts, you are able to focus on your spirituality more and therefor practice being spiritual. The walk is one of beauty and peacefulness. What will you experience on your labyrinth walk?

"Dear Lord, I don't know who or what will cross my path today. But I do know that You are my Rock and my Fortress. You are my Shield and my Strong Tower. Help me to anchor myself to You today. Teach me how to stand strong in You and choose only Your way today. Help me walk by Your truth and not my feelings. Help me to embrace anything that comes my way as an opportunity to see You at work and as an opportunity to point others to You. Thank You that You love me and nothing can ever take that away from me! Even if I fail today and fall short, You whisper Your unconditional love deep into my soul and remind me that Your mercies are new every morning. That truly amazes me, Lord. Thank You for meeting with me today. Would You wake me again tomorrow with the same sweet whisper of Your love? I can't wait to meet with You again. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
- Wendy Blight

Justification
This prayer explores the mental and emotional connection between us and God. These are aspects of spirituality of having a relationship based on a profound level of mental or emotional communion. The prayer shows that there is a relationship between God and a person as they are asking him to help them be prepared for whatever happens in the day. They are also asking Him to teach them how to be more like Him. This connection is strong as the person is placing all trust into God. The prayer says, “Help me to embrace anything that comes my way as an opportunity to see You at work and as an opportunity to point others to You.” This line is asking God to help them embrace and be open to everything that they encounter The spiritual connection that God and the person have is strong and is both mental and emotional as they are praying to Him but are also asking Him for protection and guidance. The spirituality in this prayer shows us how we can connect to others through prayer.

10 Morning Prayers to Use Daily. (2015).
Spirituality represented through images

Justification
This image shows how one can connect with their spirituality. The image shows a young woman meditating by the water surrounded by rocks. The sky shows a setting sun about to hit the horizon. This image is giving the representation that this is a very peaceful and relaxing place where one can calm their mind and think back on their day. Peace of mind is a very important part of being spiritual. Connecting with a sense higher then ourselves is how we achieve this. By letting go of unneeded thoughts and worries is a refreshing and successful way renewing ourselves and connecting with our spirit. The young woman in the image can be seen doing this. Her simple pose shows us that she is reflecting back on her thoughts and clearing those that are unneeded from her mind. By taking a moment in a day, especially in the morning or at the end, we are able to reflect on what the next day brings for us or what we had just achieved. Doing this creates a sense of purpose and meaning to our lives. Many people find a quiet place to stop, relax, reflect and create. Create is the action of creating a new purpose for you to improve on throughout the day or for the next day. This image shows one way a person can connect emotionally and mentally to themselves with their spirituality by filtering thoughts and building a bigger purpose and meaning for them.

Wilkinson, Will.

My spirituality is expressed on the pages of this Padlet showing how I believe being spiritual makes for a better life. Spirituality relates to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. And also, can be having a relationship based on a profound level of mental or emotional communion.

My spirituality is nourished by music, art, meditation, prayer and paired with my participation in religious beliefs through attending Mass I find spirituality in my faith. Religion is a big part of who I am spiritually and as a person, and I believe that engaging in Rituals such as prayer that it builds on my spirituality. Ritual is an important element in my spirituality as it is helps me become a better person and notice the simple pleasures in life. In the Padlet I have included two scripture passages that resonate with me spiritually and that I believe are fundamental in sustaining a high level of spirituality. The piece of music which I have chosen makes me understand how I can strengthen myself into becoming a better person and through the artwork it represents an aspect of spirituality that I find extremely important in maintaining a high level of self-worth and helps in acknowledging your own spirit.

It is through my expression of faith that I am able to connect with my spirituality. The aspects of my Padlet show how I build on my spiritual strength and the ways in which I acknowledge spiritual life. Being spiritual has taught me how I can really appreciate everything in life and recognise the little things. Being spiritual has really changed the way in which I see the world.

We here about what He has done through the readings and Gospel and are encouraged to go out and share the good word of Jesus as he lives through us.

The introductory rites at the beginning of the Mass outlines what values of Jesus’ we will be praising. This is important as once hearing this you can centre yourself and truly connect with the scriptures and rituals taking place in the Mass. These values are carried throughout the rest of the Mass in the Liturgy of the word, Eucharist and concluding rites and demonstrate to us as followers how we can be more like Jesus. When I experience this when I attend church it allows me to really focus on my personal belief and helps me understand the rest of the Mass.

In the liturgy of the word scripture passages are read and the priest gives a homily to explain in detail how Jesus’ actions can be translated to our society. His homily tells us how we can be more like Jesus every day and really express our faith to others. This part of the mass is really important to me as it explicitly explains how I can live more simply and more like Jesus did. It explains to me how I can help others and find joy in it.

During the liturgy of the Eucharist followers are nourished by God’s gifts as they take the Holy body and blood of Christ. The body and blood of Christ are represented by bread and wine and remind us of how Jesus gave up his life for us.

In the concluding rites of the Mass, the prayer is said by the priest where he encourage us to go out and spread the good words of the Lord and live like Jesus. This part of the Mass really has a deep connection with me as I can see how I can make a difference and live like Jesus. It sparks my spirituality and helps me strengthen myself and gives me a basis to start and help others.

The Catholic Mass as a whole really helps me strengthen and realise how I can flourish and help others as Jesus did. For me the mass symbolises the way in which we all should be living and helps me centre in on my spirituality.

In our own Catholic Opening Mass an element I really appreciated was the introductory procession where students, staff, community members and Father Joseph came up to the alter. One specific feature which and I saw and appreciated was Elwyn Henaway playing the didgeridoo. This symbolised the spiritual connection where we as a college acknowledge our traditional owners of the land This has great significance to me as I really value the Indigenous recognition in Australia and to acknowledge and incorporate that into the Catholic Mass was an amazing way to open the Mass and gave it great significance to the rest of the mass.

Through my Padlet I have a better understanding on how to strengthen yourself and how your faith boosts your spirituality. I have always been a faithful person and only recently I have truly connected with my spirituality. Creating this Padlet has taught me many new aspects of spirituality and how I can connect with myself through meditation and pray. By diving into many different aspects, I have been able to expand my understanding of what it is like to be spiritual. I found this through the scripture passages where I can connect with the stories of Jesus and translate that into how I can work on how I carry myself. I truly connected with the song in helping me understand the value of self-worth and confidence which helps me strengthen myself. Having a strong mind set helps me relax through meditation to calm my mind and reflex on the day and how I can be a better person for the days coming. There are many aspects that I have discovered that nourish my spiritualty and encourage me to expand and be more open to new ways I can work on me spirituality.
