In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses the element of repetition through the lives of Frankenstein and his creation to show how they both wanted companions in some time in their life. In the text it says, “You must create a female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being.” Frankenstein before he created his monster, wanted a simple life where he could have a lover (Elizabeth) and be happy just like the Monster now wants one. Mary Shelley uses this repetition to show the similarities between the creator and his creation. When it says “I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being”, this is talking about how the Monster wants someone to show him love and sympathy throughout his life, in order for him to stay sane.

Shelley’s use of repetition in Frankenstein is used to ensure that the reader analyzes what the author is trying to convey. One example is the use of repetition in the moral dilemma of creating a second creature in chapters 17-19. This repetition is a way of Mary Shelley’s to emphasize the theme of Creator vs. Creature.

In the novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley uses the element of repetition by demonstrating throughout the novel that Dr.Frankenstein and the creature are alike. Through the situation they’ve been through and the things they want they demonstrate having similar qualities. For example, Dr. Frankenstein wants to be loved by Elizabeth, while the creature wants a companion of his own, but they both don’t get want they want due to how they are. In the novel Dr.Frankenstein said “I never saw any woman who excited, as Elizabeth does, my warmest admiration and affection. My future hopes and prospects are entirely bound up in the expectation of our union.” While the creature told Dr. Frankenstein “You must create a female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being. This you alone can do, and I demand it of you as a right which you must not refuse to concede.” This is repetition although the events are different their situation is still the same. They both want a companion in order to pursue their happiness, which demonstrates their similarities, overall being repetition.

In Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the element of repetition can clearly be found and multiple logical reasons can be seen for as to why this action takes place. One use of repetition is through the word horror. When Frankenstein made his creation, he repeatedly exclaimed that he experienced horror emotionally and that his creation was physically horrible. Furthermore, he said that his actions were horrible as he had done a horrible deed. The purpose behind this is that the writer is trying to convey to the reader how truly awful Frankensteins actions were and how scary the creation was. The more times a word is said, the more likely a person is to remember it. Therefore, when asked to think about the events that took place in the story, they are likely to remember the repeated word of horror. Further in the reading, the creature asks for a companion which in itself is more repetition as Frankenstein wants companionship in his own life. Yet as this request is made, the horror is repeated that was found earlier in the story.

Shelly uses repetition to show that Dr. Frankenstein can never be content with his creation and will always suffer from it. Victor's constant mood swings in the book, such as when (specific example) demonstrate his discontent with the monster. Further, the use of repetition allows the reader to observe Frankenstein's character development from a mad man to a sensible scientist and vice versa.

Mary Shelley uses the element of repetition in Frankenstein, because it emphasizes the importance of a certain phrase, for example when the author uses the word “I” to show how the Monster and its creator interacted and when they would talk to each other.

The quote “I shall be with you on your wedding night.” is used many times. The repetition of this quote is to emphasize the importance of it. This quote was said to Victor by the creature he created. Victor came to know this quote meant that the creature was going to 🤬 him on his wedding night. The creature meant he was going to 🤬 Elizabeth, not Victor. The creature felt as if he had to be lonely then so did Victor. Victor was too self-absorbed to know what the creature truly meant and Elizabeth was then killed on their wedding night.

Mary Shelley uses the element of repition to show the importance of the creature wanting a companion to prove that anyone has feelings and anyone can imagine. In the novel Frankenstein says “My companion will be of the same nature as myself and will be content with the same fare. We shall make our bed of dried leaves; the sun will shine on us as on man and will ripen our food.” This quote shows that the creature has the imagination of a human and the same characteristics other than his looks. This also shows that just because the monster is not human he can still be treated with the same sympathy as a human.

Shelley uses the element of repetition to create a social commentary concerning women's roles in society. To explain, all the women in the story get sick and die with the exception of Justine; Caroline and Elizabeth both die due to illness. They are portrayed as weak and revolve around the men in their lives. This repetition of female death in the story opens up a conversation about how women were not viewed as equal to men. The fact that the women are not even granted dynamic character status asserts this fact.

Mary Shelley utilizes the literary element of repetition in Frankenstein to emphasize certain topics throughout the novel. In chapter of 17 Frankenstein it states “I intended to reason. This passion is detrimental to me, for you do not reflect that you are the cause of its excess.”. Here Frankenstein’s monster is speaking to Frankenstein attempting to persuade Frankenstein to create the monster a mate. The monster repeats the word you while he discusses his problems and how he is isolated to emphasize how the his creator, Dr. Frankenstein, is responsible for his isolation.

Shelley uses repetition is to show conflict and and resolution. After Frankenstein created his creature, he felt great regret, and a lot of bad, evil and sorrow came out of this creation. After the creation of the monster, later the monster decided he needed a companion of his own he demanded , the creation of a female of his own with the same effects as himself. he reflected off of his past and declined, and repetition was used here to reflect the deaths of many women important in his life which could be a result to the decline of the creation of a female monster.. This shows how mistakes are often learned from, but theres alway consequences to and from your actions. Not only will he always be reflected off of his actions but his creation's. Repetitions show how past mistakes have their way of coming back to you.

The repetition of the concept of union/marriage is used to show the similarities between creator and creation. The monster ask Frankenstein for a female companion just days after the idea of marriage was mentioned to frankenstein. This use of repetition illustrate the similarities between these two characters by showing that they both want a companion.
