Being a sufferer myself I can empathize. However I know my life is priveleged and it's upsetting to think about how this goes undiagnosed or is left untreated as a result of the hardships they face when it comes to the American medical system.

The struggles with racism and the lack of health care benefits is something that is wide spread and should be looked at as a very serious issue. I think the healthcare industry also has a problem with seeing patients not as individuals but as racial stereotypes and it shows. Asthma is a very common disease but can be just as dangerous as any other if not treated properly and since healthcare seems to be out of reach for many African Americans, they lack the necessary means to fight it.

Sadly, I have witnessed and experienced the injustice within the health care system. I'm not sure if the rest of the world actually realize what African Americans are dealing with.I feel like African Americans are under attack and we need to start educating ourselves on our rights and learning ways to protect ourselves because at this point I feel like we are under attack. My son was diagnosed with asthma at four months and it's a lot I had to learn on my own.I feel like the research that I have done around my son's Asthma condition helped my anxiety.

I've always known that asthma was a serious medical condition, but I will admit that I was not aware of all the triggers associated with it. Especially like bugs, anger and pets, which I'm guessing is from their hair. I have at least 3 close family members who suffer from asthma and they've survived really bad asthma attacks and have been hospitalized as a result. There are so many disparities among people of color in healthcare, it's of no wonder that this area is no different. I'd be interested in knowing the percentage of those who have perished because they weren't taken seriously or not serious enough. Asthma is nothing to play with, so I hope that this drastically changes and improves very soon.

My younger brother has Asthma as well and sometimes need to take breathing treatments. I was never really aware of the triggers to asthma besides the obvious. I found this Padlet very interesting and informative. Sadly, we still see African Americans who can not receive the proper care they need. I believe African Americans, as well as any other race, should receive the proper care and treatments as others. We are all humans. This is a very serious issue that is occurring. I enjoyed all the information and recordings that were posted.
