Puritans were known to have very strict religious ideals that prioritized God and one's connection to God. Further, Puritans believed strongly in education and established the first public school, as well as, Harvard. The Puritans also believed that everyone was predestined to be saved or to go with Satan. Rumors of witchcraft began to spread amongst the town because of uncommon behavior demonstrated by a few girls. For instance, a few girls were ill, but they experienced some strange things that were supposedly caused by witches (as determined by a doctor). However, the girls began to blame "witches" that were on trial, which caused some officials to believe that the girls were making up the stories. Further, similar events like the un-american activites demonstrated similar strategies that included blamming people for actions they might have not done.
