What Superman and Me is about is Alexie and how he taught himself how to read at a young age. Also that even if he was born in a place where everyone is seen as very uneducated he still wanted to get more educated. 
He shows that even at a young age you can still learn and be very educated. An example of this is when he said that he was reading Grapes of Wrath when he was in kindergarten, a book that should not be easy to read at his age at the time. Even if he was born in a reservation were nothing big was expected from him he still was able to come out as a very well educated individual. What Malcolm X is about is Malcolm getting convicted of robbery in 1946 and learning not only how to read but he also learned new words. He was also able to rewrite a whole dictionary in order to memories everything that was in the dictionary. 
  Malcolm shows that even tho he was in a bad position in his life he was able to make the best of it by educating himself. With all the time he had in prison was able to teach himself by rewriting a dictionary and reading it out loud again and again.
