The Maths department at Leicester College uses Maths Watch a lot not only for teaching but also for assessment.
Maths Watch has interactive resources such as the one shown below and it is accessible to all students and teachers. Once a student has attempted an interactive question, the is a button to submit the answer and feedback is given straight away. The bar will turn green when the answer is right but it will show Whooops! when the answer is wrong. One of the important things about this kind of assessment Maths Watch is that it has video clips organised by subjects to help students understand Maths concepts once the seem to be scoring badly. Although Maths Watch is appreciated for its interactive nature, video clips and worksheets and answers, it cannot replace teacher's assessment because it lacks that human element of clarifying things which a teacher would provide if a student wanted to clarify and understand. A teach has a capacity to explain differently using different approaches

AQA provides information about the composition of the assessment material.
The content categories and lists topics and how each topic will be graded and weighted. Which means that as a teacher, I am required in when I am teaching my students to how marks are going to be awarded in each section. Five sections are indicated in this content including:
(1) Numbers
(2) Rations and Proportions
(3) Algebra
(4) Geometry
(5) Statistics /Data handling. It is very important for me as a teacher to know and share it with my students so that they understand how they will be assessed externally. While this practice is recommended , the question is, are all teachers sharing grading information with their students? It makes a difference in students' learning when shared.

Specimen papers from AQA provide students with a proper experience of what to expect in the final assessment. Students do specimen papers and past papers from the exam board but assesses internally because it helps to students to see, touch and write on papers that previous candidates have done and experience what it is like to do assessments under exam condition
Assessment results inform the students and us teachers about where we should put our efforts. Maths is divided into modules when we are teaching and doing formative assessment but specimen and past papers are tested linearly meaning that all sections are tested. Sections in Maths include: Numbers, Ratio, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics. So results from specimen papers and past papers can indicate which section or sections students are struggling and therefore help teachers to do more lessons in those sections
</sup>

This is AQA's scheme of assessment which provides the aims and learning outcomes in GCSE Maths. It guides both the teachers and students about what to concentrate on what teachers should be teaching and students should be learning. The scheme of assessment concentrates on the development of Mathematical confidence, positive attitudes towards Maths and its application in own lives as well as in society. The scheme does not however, tell teachers how to do that, so each teacher has to make efforts to monitor and reflect on their own practice in meeting the scheme.
This information is available to teachers but whether or not it is given to students, its another matter.
It is important for students to know why they are learning what they are learning and more importantly how they will be assessed .

AQA's Assessment objectives provide information about skills that the external assessor will be looking for in the final assessment. These skills embedded in the curriculum and tests include, the application of numbers and theories, reasoning as well as problem solving skills. Again in my own experience, I could argue that teachers share this helpful information with their students, some do but not many teachers do it. For those who do share the assessment objectives, I am sure this contributes positively to their students' learning experience. Students must know the composition of the assessment they will be undertaking, the content and expectations. If teachers and students made use of this document, it would actually help students to learn and pass their exams. It would also enable teachers to do the right teaching for the students to understand. Unfortunately not all teachers share this information with their students and for that matter some students do not even understand the importance of some sessions, especially in Maths
