Then, he feels something wet on his shoulder. He thinks these are tears from Ignacio, a sign of suffering, remorse or regret. However, it turns out to be blood, not tears. Ignacio is dead, and he never got to hear the "dogs barking". The old man did not realized that Ignacio died; he was the one who was unable to "see" and "hear."
