Due to my experience in Spanish 2, I am now able to express things that I have done in the past. Things I have done in the past includes but not limited to: what I did when I woke up in the morning, what I did before going to school, what I did before going to sleep, what I did for chores, what I used for chores, what I did at the market, what I bought at the market, and what classes/ clubs I was in at school. I am also now able to explain how to cook or prepare a meal with a larger variety of foods and verbs. Along with all of those, I can explain how I found my apartment and where I looked. While living in Spain, I was near many kinds of people, so I learned how to describe them based on what country they are from along with what role of the family they played such as the German guy who was a great-grandfather.

Spanish vs English

One of the main differences I have seen between the English language and Spanish is that in Spanish, everything is given a gender. Such as el cuaderno and la computadora. This counts for all items. When it comes to adjectives such as divertida, it be feminine or masculine. This depends on what it is describing. In Spanish there are accents over certain letters to make them stand out. Also when there are two r’s next to eachother in Spanish you roll the letters when speaking. Another difference is that in Spanish the words aren’t always put in the same order that you would say them in English.

I loved learning about the daily things that are so different in Spain compared to the US. It was interesting how differently they have their meals. They have a small breakfast followed by a midmorning snack. Lunch is usually the largest meal in Spain and is served around 2pm. After that, they have a midafternoon snack since they have such a late dinner. Dinner is usually served at around 9pm. Another thing I enjoyed learning about was the differences between schools here and in Spain. In Spain classes are only 45 minutes long compared to our hour and thirty minute classes. They also are given the privilege of going home for lunch unlike in the US. The last thing I found interesting was that they have markets for food while the US has large grocery stores.

Such as what teenagers would say when seeing a best friend instead of the proper greeting we have learned. I would also love to learn more future tense. Currently I can only really talk about the past and present, learning future tense would be really helpful. I would also love to learn more things in their culture that have to do with the parents. Such as do both men and women work and if they expect their children to help work as well. I would also like to learn commands and emotions. So that way I am able to express more in depth how I am feeling.

Spanish As A Online Class

Taking an online class is much more demanding than taking a class in person. It is also harder for some concepts to be taught from teacher to student because its all on a screen. The teacher has less students so they can focus more on you and your personal needs. I like how everything for the week is due at one time compared to being due on a day to day basis. This is helpful when I can’t get anything done on a certain day. I can simply spend some extra time the next day getting it done. I liked how the class was shorter than the 18 week classes I take during the school year. Another difference is that there are no tests except for the final exam. Lastly the final exam is only 20% of my grade instead of 25%.

I liked how the teacher responded to my emails at a fairly quick time frame. I also liked how the live classes were interactive and they were easier to learn from than the lessons. I didn’t like the mass amount of vocabulary that we had to learn in each lesson in each unit. Although I understand it was necessary for the short time frame we had to learn from. As for improvements the audio in escuchar quizzes was very hard to understand because the words ran together. To fix this I suggest that the person speaking in those questions say the phrase twice but differently each time. Lastly, some of the flashcards were messed up. Such as having the wrong words or same word twice.

I also used the practice vocabulary and grammar quizzes in every lesson to have a better understanding of what the actual quiz would be like. For the listening questions I would always slow them down to 75% so that I could understand the question better. I took very detailed notes in every live class so that I would have good study material. I also used the practice sites that were given in every lesson. Lastly, I would look over all of my notes and materials before I would take a quiz.
