Mothers typically seem to call the illness diarrhoea.

• What do you believe is the cause of this problem? 
Some mothers mention exposure to heat causing diarrhoea for their children, others mention concerns regardings curses, witchcraft and evil spirits. 

• What course do you expect it to take? How serious is it? 
The mothers seem informed about the potential seriousness of diarrhoea, though they seem to also understand that a diarrhoea isn't an absolute death sentence. 

• What do you think this problem does inside your body? 
It makes their children vomit, pass a lot of stool and grow very ill.

• How does it affect your body and your mind? 
It makes you weak, and it makes you drowsy and makes it hard to think clearly.

• What do you most fear about this condition? 
Mothers most fear the death of their children.

• What do you most fear about the treatment? 
That it won't work. Mothers have mentioned going to hospitals to get their children a drip, only for their child to pass away anyway. They've also mentioned various traditional treatments, such as intake of herbs, being fairly ineffective in improving the condition of their children.

In the region involved in the Cunnama and Honda article, it seems to me that ethnic identity is regarded as an important aspect of the inhabitants of the region. The inhabitants express their experiences of being shunned and treated as inferior by health care providers due to their use of traditional jewellary, for instance. Despite this, the mothers involved in the study expressed being comfortable with bringing their children to both traditional healers as well as allopathic facilities, indicating that they are still open to various approaches and what they believe is best for their child.
