I believe that I did an okay job during the Harkness discussions because I feel that I had enough evidence and claims. I also took specific quotes to support my claims. The feedback that I received was making sure that I claim the global issue more clearly and that I talk about the rhetorical devices that are being used.

Linda Krumholz claims (in "The Ghosts of Slavery: Historical Recovery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved") that finding a voice for the thoughts and experiences of women is central to the "healing," historical recovery theme and structure of the book. According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? How does the structure and style of the novel give voice to "the thoughts of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken" (Beloved 199)?

The novel specifically addresses issues in gender, writing, and power by placing the emphasis on the book by being not only on the struggles of the formally enslaved but on Sethe and her struggles within motherhood. The syntax and the style of the novel helped give a voice to the women of 124 by their stream of consciousness by being through Sethe's first-hand experience and her thoughts of how she viewed her actions.

- Motifs/themes that Camus uses a lot in The Stranger that I find interesting is the use of heat and how he portrays the characters emotions through the description of heat. He is able to get across to the reader to emotion and tone of the book and how the characters take things into action.
- How can the identity of one be revealed through heat?

Memorable Quote -
- "But today, with the sun bearing down, making the whole landscape shimmer with heat, it was inhuman and oppressive" (52)
--- This quote was picked as a memorable quote to me because starting in the book he always uses heat in a negative view and a lousy setting but then when he is visiting a place that his maman always visited he tries to see it in a positive way and was able to end off his trip with his maman in a good way.
- "I was assailed by memories of a life that wasn't mine anymore, but one in which I'd found the simplest and most lasting joys" (107)
--- This quote was picked for special because I felt that meursalt was being honest with himself and for once was being sympathetic.
- "I was condemned to die; the way he saw it, we were all condemned to die"
--- This quote was picked for special because here it is proving that he is really starting to fall into peace with himself to die in jail because of how he has lost himself.

Motifs Dillard explores -

Throughout An American Childhood, Annie Dillard uses a range of motifs such as sleep, water, games, eyes, and body, with so many to go off of. But the motif that stuck out the most with me and was the most interesting was eyes and the way that Dillard connected her maturity with growth throughout the book and how it had then related to eyes. 1) I could see myself possibly writing on 1984 in paper 2 because it has a relating topic of oppression that goes with a lot of other books such as "Days and Memorys" and I didn't use that for my IO so that would be a good book to compare with. Even "Beloved" is another great book that I did not use yet and I can easily compare to with the idea of oppression.

This quote is memorable for me because I feel that it is giving a short description of each word by what it really meant to people that lived in Oceania and how they wanted it to be.

I liked this quote because everyone in Oceania was brainwashed or had to go behind everyones back to do anything and I felt in this quote it was open that they didn't want to hide and they wanted this open to other people.

This was a quote that really explained a lot to me as Winston and Julia realize where they are and how big brother was able to truly control the past. It was obvious that there was no extinct and everything that has happen still matters to this day and is controlled.

I believe when it comes to testing time I might be using Hamlet for an option of paper 2 in May because I did like the emotional range that Hamlet included and how many different devices were present throughout the entire play. I feel I can support myself well when using Hamlet and there is a lot of explanation that can go along with it. I believe a work I could compare it to is Chronicle of a death foretold because of the tie with religion an how each book had main characters that went through heavy challenges of religion and murder.

What I enjoyed the most about this unit was the exploration that I was able to seek through the different stories that were told in different perspectives, tones, styles, and places. Having one author write in so many ways opened up a lot of interest in what the author has experienced and had thoughts on. I could see myself using Murikami for my next writing because there is such a wide range of ideas and topics that were brought up among all the stories as well as narratives. A work I haven't used but I could see myself comparing it to Murakami is Days and Memories for the different story kind of book and the different tones that were brought from different narratives.
