Explanations were given from authorities, for example ancient Greek writers and Catholic Church. People acquired information during the Scientific Revolution by placing educated people and giving them importance on what they observed and less on what they were being told. Why it didn’t make sense to Nicholas Copernicus was because he was told the planets orbited the earth while if they did they would move in a complex pattern. So he made a different explanation and asked “What if the planets actually orbit the sun?” It made more sense to Nicholas Copernicus that way.
