People started gaining information about the world before the Scientific Revolution, because most educated people studied the world and took guidance from explanations. Explanations were given from authorities, for example ancient Greek writers and Catholic Church. People acquired information during the Scientific Revolution by placing educated people and giving them importance on what they observed and less on what they were being told. They gained knowledge by observing the world around them and coming up with logical explanations for what they observed.

The discovery Nicolas Copernicus made that changed the way people understood the solar system was by him starting off, thinking it wouldn’t hurt to share his ideas about the universe. As Nicolas Copernicus studied more and more about planets, it seemed like what Ptolemy stated became nonsense to him. Why it didn’t make sense to Nicholas Copernicus was because he was told the planets orbited the earth while if they did they would move in a complex pattern. So he made a different explanation and asked “What if the planets actually orbit the sun?” It made more sense to Nicholas Copernicus that way. How people used to view the solar system before was that the earth was the center of the universe and that the sun and other planets orbited, or circled around the earth for 1,400 years.

Johannes Keper discovered that the planet Mars did not move in a circle as he expected it to. He knew that Nicholas Copernicus stated that the movement of planets was circular. So Keper’s observations showed that Nicholas Copernicus was wrong and Keper wrote that Mars and all other planets moved in an elliptical or oval orbit instead of circular ones.

The trial of Galileo Galilei by the Catholic Church demonstrates how religion and science came into conflict because when people contradicted the Church’s teaching they weakened the church. Church officials were afraid to ask about the church teachings because it might lead to more n more questions. Since Galileo published a book about how planets orbit the sun he was put on trial. Catholic officials wanted Galileo to publicly reject his findings and let Catholic teachings make its way about how the earth was the center of the universe and did not move.

What Sir Issac Newton meant when he said “the world moved like a machine”, is that the earth and other planets orbit around the sun and move accordingly and never stops, it just keeps moving like how a machine does when it functions. Also how the world attracts gravity to pull down objects such as an apple it has a special force. So the earth follows all the rules that Newton identifies. It basically compares how a machine works, it programs the same way and follows the rules.

This started with scientists changing the government and using reasons and logic. Once people learned the laws scientists argued that it improved people’s lives and society.
