Before it wasn’t in reality the mob bosses that ran everything but the corrupt politicians.

The gangs were thugs in the employ of the political machines to  intimidate opposition candidates and funneling votes to the boss/politicians. In return the politicians and police chiefs would turn a blind eye to illegal gambling and prostitution rings because of that favor that they did for them.

When the provision happened in 1920 the only people that where there to be able to help the people that anted the beer where the mobsters because they where the only ones that where equipped with the things that they needed.

The thing that they used to have a successful bootlegging operation was a paramilitary organization. For example at the beginning the street gangs didn’t know a thing about business, but they knew how to use a gun properly and how to intimidate others to be able to protect illegal breweries and rum-running operations from other rival gangs.

 They provide security for speakeasies and payed off any nosey cops or politicians to look the other way and not bother them.

Since they started to get so much money they had to hire lawyers and accountants to launder the millions in selling the alcohol. They had to start thinking about strategic partnerships with other gangs in order to work more effectively.

Thay had to become businessman and what we call now organized crime.

That started to talk to other mod bosses in a organized fashion and at that time this was uncommon because they use to settle things with a shootout.

They talked about peace and if they had peace with there own people they will have peace with there’s.

Before they where just gangs but they had to learn how to be organized and get away with  things by using the law. There for they became none as organized crime.

Some mob bosses had there money transferred to casinos since it was legalized in 1931 and covered there tracks because then they had it transferred to reinvest into legitimate companies.
