How’s life as a piece of paper?
It was a beautiful summer day, yet together with my 999 friends I
was put in plastic wrapping and squished in a cooking hot car. We
drove for half an eternity until the supplier took us out of the car and
carried us to a stylish front-door. He rang the bell and some women
accepted us grumbling.
Once we were in the house, we started to be put in different rooms.
Can you believe it? I wasn't in the same room as my best friend! I
was in a room that looked like a fairy tale castle. It is so annoying
that I am here with a few others and my best friend is in a room
which looked like burglar’s fortress.
Oh, I forgot to tell you something about me: I am Alex; and I am a
blue coloured A4-sized-paper. I am immortal, if humans keep
recycling me! Cool, right? The annoying thing is, that I am always reborn
in a different colour. Last time I was bright-yellow, the time
before I was deep-green and many other colours before that. Blue is
my favourite, so I am hoping I will last long.
My hope is lost, as I heard the little girl, who is living in this fairy tale
room, talk about her crafts project. She said that I am going to be a
fairy’s dress and the background of her art work. She is cutting me
out and is putting me above an undressed fairy she has drawn on
one of my pink friends. Then she is drawing the outline of me with a
black pen. Later she will stick me on myself again. Luckily, she gave
me to her mother as a gift. Mom smiled and pinned me on her pin
board.
Two years passed since then and I was still hanging there. Finally, I
was taken of the board and became a new colour. Do you want me
to tell you how it works?
Sure, I am great at explaining: Paper waste is collected from offices,
homes and schools. That`s why it is important to use recycle bins, so
the collectors find me! Then we are sent to people who work at the
waste paper factories. We are being compressed for use by paper
mills. Paper mills work us into pulp and recycle paper-fibre.
Afterwards, the pulp and fibre are manufactured into paper and
used again for different products i.e. Notebooks, printing paper etc.
After that, these products are sold to users and last, paper is again
trashed and my life-circle starts again…
Do you get it now? I hope so, because my explanation was very
good. If you want me to sign an autograph then go home…. I’m sure
a lot of you have paper, right? If you have recycled paper, go ahead
and get yourself a signature.
This is what always happens and it is very annoying that I have to
drive in a car, but as you already know, Alex is immortal!

The plastic bottle got off the glass bottle uneasily.
“You’re supposed to be in the bottle recycle bin,” said the paper box.
“Yes, I am,” said the glass bottle. “However, I got thrown by a naughty boy into the wrong in.” They were angry and sad because they could be recycled. Angry and furious, down and sad, they sat there looking very annoyed about why did they all got in the wrong bin.
“You are very smelly,” exclaimed the plastic bottle.
“I didn’t take a bath for days!” answered the glass bottle.
The Journey Of A Plastic Bottle by Sienna Gordon 6D age 11

My name is Trashy. I am a plastic Coke bottle. My story starts at a plastic factory in London. I started off as a mixture of cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt, and crude oil. I was heated, broken down into tiny molecules, and finally made into separate molecule chains. I was then filled with liquid and sent off to the town corner store. I sat in the refrigerator for at least three days, and finally sold to a young boy named Miles. Miles was an athlete, he was going to be running a huge 10km the next day. The next day eventually came. I was packed in Miles’s bag and driven off to the sports track. BLARP! The horn blared. The race had begun. I was in Miles’s sweaty palms, trying not to slip out. He took one sip, then another, and before he was even halfway through the race, all of the Coke inside me was finished. I was chucked into a huge metal tin and left alone. Hours passed; still nobody. Just when I thought I was left for dead, a man came and collected the tin. The tin was emptied out into a big truck. Where were we going? I was positive the truck was going back to the factory. The one I was made in. What else could explain all the other plastic bottles that were in this truck too? But I was wrong. We were dumped into a giant field. Where were we? Why did it smell like spoiled milk and rotten eggs? It all made sense now. We were at the town dump… I was FURIOUS. I was in perfectly good shape! Why would these people just dump us here, when we could be recycled and made into something brand new?! Months passed. We were left just lying here, disintegrating into tiny plastic particles. Another five months, I was starting to feel very dried and wrinkled . Fortunately for me, a big hurricane came. I was thrown about, tortured, and badly hurt. Somehow the storm had guided me into one of the English river channels. I floated along the river for a long period of time and finally floated out into the Atlantic Ocean. I came across lots of different sea creatures that tried to eat parts of me, and some that actually DID. Now all that was left of me was my bright blue bottle cap. I floated past many boats that just looked at me and ignored me. Some boats picked me up, then just tossed me back into the sea again, and some sailed right on top of me! Just when I thought I was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean, a small boat came and scooped me up! On the way back to port , the boat picked up many other bottles and pieces of rubbish. When we got back to land, we were all made into a beautiful plastic sculpture of a whale, and that is where I still am today.

BY SIENNA GORDON 6D

Rubby The Rubbish

For years and years, millions of rubbish piled up. No one ever thought of dealing with it but all because this miracles thing, which conceal itself as rubbish bottle, came to the world and saved everyones life. It was Rubby.

Rubby came to the world in year 2020. California, rubbish workers were working very hard as usual to unload tons and tons of rubbish from the rubbish trucks. When a star fell from the sky. People watched it hit a rubbish bottle. The bottle came to life. It woke up like a baby and cried and cried.

Rubby grew and grew. She learned how to walk, jump and talk. She is very smart. She loves the world she lived in.

In year 2035, something bad happened. A nasty rubbish storm thrown all the rubbish into the air and dropped it all over the world. World council agreed that America president, Johny Graveryz, had to pay for all the mess. America’s tax increased and increased. Everyone lost their money in paying heavy tax. Black year has born.

Rubby started to get fearful about why didn’t anyone do anything to help the world of rubbish that is as smelly as poop? Why did they just throw the rubbish into the trash can and not consider recycling? So one day, he hopped on a rubbish truck and went to the dump yard to search for answers.

She arrived at the dump yard and found out why this happened. The recycling machine was off so no recycling can be made. Rubby didn’t have any hands as she is a bottle, so he jumped onto the machine and turned it on.

She started finding recyclable items to recycle. He worked from day to night and never stopped. One day, the same nasty rubbish storm happened again, but it was different this time. God saw what Rubby did and he was so pleased, God made the storm sucked out the rubbish from the sea and made it to reusable glass bottles.

President Johny Goveryz said that this was a miracle and described recycling as a speech. This is named as,”One piece of rubbish, one miracle shall be. America, our big fellas, we happy this miracle as our spirit.” After everyone heard the news, everyone started to recycle and none of this storm happened again.

By Cayden Lock 6D

THE END

Down in the dumps

There was an eleven year old boy who lived on the coast of Seattle. Everyday, the boy would have a handful of chores to do; cleaning the dishes, mowing the lawn, taking the trash out–to name a few. However, he always had the habit of mindlessly dumping the trash in places not suitable. Whilst his mother would constantly tell him off, screaming at him for being an irresponsible citizen, he still continued to litter.

The little boy never paid attention to the consequences of his actions, he never noticed the severe damage he was doing to the environment–and did not seem to care all that much. However, one day, this was all about to change drastically.

One Friday evening, the little boy’s mum instructed him to take out the trash once again. Undergoing the same routine, the boy walked outside his house, lugged the heavy bag of garbage across his back and proceeded to walk towards the river. He arrived to the edge of the river and continued to unwrap the trash bag; later pouring the contents in the trash bag down the river’s narrow stream. As the pieces of garbage began swiftly floating down, the boy turned around to walk back to his house. Strangely enough, as he turned around, he heard a high-pitched sound come from the river. At first, the boy thought it was a strange alarm going off. Though after intently listening, it appeared to be a delicate piece of trash screeching out: “Don’t do this to us, stop throwing us into the water, this is causing so much damage to the whole world!”

The little boy assumed that he was going mental because as a piece of trash was seemingly talking to him–though it actually was. All the things that the piece of rubbish said was what his mum taught him in the first place. The boy knew that he should stop doing it, but he said to himself “how much damage could a load of rubbish do to an enormous world?”. So he still carried on doing it.

He never stopped doing it even when his mother threatened him to never do it again. The moral of the story is, just a pile of garbage even just a water bottle can damage our world. Try to recycle and you’ll be helping the world stay healthy and clean.

By Natalie Ho 6D

Ways to make the earth clean by Jinho Park 5B aged 9

We need to make our earth clean and nice because we have to give it to our grand grand children.
However, some people cause problems without thinking. They throw trash on the floor and sometimes they throw away useful boxes that can be recycled and make a brand new thing. Some people also use a lot of disposable products.
The worst news is that part of the earth is sinking down into the water because of the global warming. If we throw trash on the ground and use disposable products a lot then the earth's tempreture will become higher. As a result, the ice melts and it turns to water and some parts will began to sink down. For example, there is a small island named Tuvalu at the south pacific ocean and now it nearly sank down.
Another reason that cause global warming is some people use a lot of cars and it makes the air dirty. So we need to use less cars and more bikes to make this situation not happen again.
Personaly, I would use less disposable products and buy a hybrid car or an electronic car when I become an adult. Also, I would use more buses or Mtrs rather than cars

Mouse Garbage BuildingName: Kaden YuenAge: 8Class: 4A Once upon a time, there lived a brown, furry, lazy mouse called Max. He spent each day in his big comfortable bed or sometimes at the bathroom playing bubbles happily. One day, he got a letter and it said, “dear Max, why don’t you go to explore the world?” He turned around and looked at his messy room. A curious question popped up to him, “How can I make something else out of garbage?” So he ran as fast as a cheetah to the garbage station, he found different kinds of garbage such as bottles, boxes and plastic.Max met some new friends at the garbage station. First he met a glass bottle and his name was called Bob. He had been there 10 years already! He also met a box called Pete and he had been there for 5 years and they were friends with each other. Then Max asked them, “can you two and the other garbage be reused?” Bob said, “yes we can but no one wants to use us.” Max shouted, “today, I will call all my friends to help!” Later, three of his friends came, they were all good at making different kinds of things. Mike was good at building, Ted was good at creating and Papa was good at decorating. That day, they started planning what they were going to build. At last, they decided to build a Disney castle for mouse. They started making the castle all day and night. In the morning, they were very tired so they got asleep. Suddenly, they found Bob the glass bottle and Pete the box were gone. So they kept on searching for Bob and Pete. Then they saw a man was clearing up the garbage?Max and his friends sneaked into the garbage station and they found Bob and Pete there. All of a sudden, Max saw a man looking at him reaching his hand towards him. So, Max ran as fast as he could. At last the man used a vacuum to catch Max. Then all the other mice threw garbage at the man. Finally, the man ran away from them.At last, Max and his friends built the huge and beautiful Disney castle with garbage and all the mice were very happy after all.

Myron Kin Wan LAI / Aged 10 / NAIS Hong Kong Class 5D

I live in Hong Kong, I have been a garbage collector for eight years. I hate my job but I want to change what people usually do. So I don’t give up.

Every HongKonger throws away 1.39kg of rubbish every single day! I am very disappointed, sad and angry about this matter. I see so many cans and mobile phones in the landfill sites. Every single mobile phone has acid and other poisonous chemicals inside it. I found out that making one can is equal to three hours TV! I think some HongKongers are rich and lazy, they usually throw away their clothes and buy new ones instead of mending their clothes like some unfortunate people do, or recycling them.

I must do something or else there will be a big hole in the ozone layer, then our Earth will get hotter and hotter! But now I have a plan. The plan is: I will make a lot of posters convincing people to recycle things. I will put the posters all over Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. Everybody will see my posters! Everybody will start recycling garbage. Hopefully, Hong Kong will change!

It takes me one year to put all the posters around the whole of Hong Kong. At first, I think this is the greatest plan I ever had, but now, all the posters around the whole of Hong Kong get destroyed. There are destroyed by the people of Hong Kong. I wish I knew why they had done this sort of thing, I am disappointed and angry but I must push on and continue convincing people until they change.

My second plan is to use Facebook to change people’s habits. I take a photo of my last poster and post it on Facebook. I get this done quickly and easily. However, again my plan doesn’t work because Facebook gets deleted by some people and many people just ignore my post. I am very puzzled, but yet I can’t give up.

My third plan is a bit crazy, I’m going on TV! My friend invites me on the news, we are classmates. When I’m on TV, I say people in Hong Kong are very lazy, I want everybody in Hong Kong to recycle things or else the hole in our ozone layer will get bigger and bigger. Then our world will become boiling hot in the near future!

Finally, some people listen to me but I want all the people to listen to my plan, then I will be proud of myself. My objective to reduce garbage and recycling is important to some people too.

My last plan is, I am going to tell the Prime Minister myself about this major issue. First, I am so proud of myself that I try meeting the Prime Minister and he promises me about he will change the people’s mind on this major issue. Unfortunately, after ten years of my hard work, nothing seems to change.
