         <description><![CDATA[<div>Foi um Físico neozelandês.<br>"Descobriu dois tipos de radiação: a radiação α (constituída por núcleos de hélio), facilmente absorvidas, e a radiação β (constituída por eletrões), com elevado poder de penetração.<br>Em 1908 ganhou o Nobel da Química.<br>Identificou a existência do protão em 1914.<br>Juntamente com Soddy percebeu que um elemento químico se pode transformar noutro (transmutação), conseguindo a primeira transmutação artificial em 1919, na Universidade de Manchester, transformando azoto em oxigénio, através de bombardeamento com partículas&nbsp; α.</div>]]></description>
