I was delighted to find Hoop Genius, which immediately sparked collaboration with developing a PE games making unit.  The story typifies the characteristics of creativity, commitment and collaboration. It addresses related concepts of initiative and influence The language in the book is accessible for Grade 3, but very rich and varied, which makes it ideal for a text stack exploring time transitions, sentence diversity and more.  Summary of the book:  Taking over a rowdy gym class right before winter vacation is not something James Naismith wants to do at all. The last two teachers of this class quit in frustration. The students—a bunch of energetic young men—are bored with all the regular games and activities.
