Reflection Q2: Being publicly corrected in front of others can be a stressful situation for learners. As a teacher, how would you overcome this problem, knowing that some errors need to be more overtly corrected than others?

1. If the teacher notices a pattern of errors being produced by a student or a group of students, the teacher can give more explicit remediation during seat work/after class.
2. The teacher should not be harsh and condescending in correcting them as students should be encouraged to produce output
(e.g. direct elicitation)
3. Consider the students' attitudes, ability levels and receptiveness to overt feedback.
4. Awareness of teachers' tone and non-verbal cues like face --> coming across as helping the students instead of embarrassing them.
5. Emphasise to students that it is about LEARNING together as a class. Don't take the error corrections personally, but rather as a learning opportunity.
5. It depends on the classroom culture of how teachers help students view mistakes (e.g. learning opportunity vs. end of the world attitude)
6. Teachers may adopt the sandwich approach when correcting mistakes (e.g. giving compliments)
7. Give students opportunities to reflect on the errors as a means to continue the conversation

Reflection Q1: Which of the two feedback types, immediate or delayed, do you think is more effective and why?

1. Generally, feedback should be as immediate as possible. But in some circumstances, such as when conducting group work, the teacher may delay feedback so that he/she can observe for error patterns before addressing the error collectively.
2. There are some types of feedback like recast that they may not be effective even if provided immediately.
3. Pro for immediate: learning on the spot, in context
Pro for delayed: they are able to refer to it again
Con for immediate: they might forget
Con for delayed: they might not even look at the corrections
