-{ وَعِبَادُ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلَّذِینَ یَمۡشُونَ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ هَوۡنࣰا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلُونَ قَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمࣰا (63) وَٱلَّذِینَ یَبِیتُونَ لِرَبِّهِمۡ سُجَّدࣰا وَقِیَـٰمࣰا (64) }

Human beings as caliphs, Allah said to the angels.

“Humans will cause corruption, why make them caliphs?” said the angels to Allah.

Allah knows best.

This shows that humans are more worthy of being caliphs.

Leaders on the face of the earth will never cease to exist.

Umar ibn al-Khattab reported that a man (who was actually Angel Jibril in human form) came to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, sat very close to him, and asked questions to teach the companions about religion.

     • Economic Growth: Zakat helps circulate wealth fairly and supports the needy.

     • Warning: Wealth should not be used for harmful or sinful purposes.

   • To fast in Ramadan.

     • Obligatory: Fasting in Ramadan is a compulsory act of worship in Islam.

     • Beyond Hunger: It is not just about abstaining from food and drink, but also controlling desires, speech, and actions.

     • Spiritual Training: Fasting teaches patience, self-discipline, and empathy for the poor.

     • Challenging: This act of worship is not easy, but it builds strength and sincerity.

   • To perform Hajj if able.

     • Obligatory: Hajj is a compulsory act of worship but only for those who are capable (physically, financially, and safely).

     • Requires Effort: Muslims should make efforts to prepare, for example by saving and registering with Tabung Haji.

     • Spiritual Debt: As long as a capable Muslim has not performed Hajj, it is considered as a debt that remains upon them.

     • Unity and Equality: Hajj gathers Muslims from all around the world, reminding them of unity and humility before Allah.

2. Iman (Faith) ❤️ (beliefs of the heart)

   • Belief in Allah.

   • Belief in angels.

   • Belief in revealed books.

   • Belief in the messengers.

   • Belief in the Last Day.

   • To worship Allah as if you see Him.

We must follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad SAW because he is the final messenger for all of mankind.

All messengers carried the same message: there is no god but Allah.

Obeying the messenger is equal to obeying Allah.

🤔Purposes of sending messengers:

1. Guide people to worship Allah.

2. Clarify the purpose of life – as a test that will be rewarded or punished in the Hereafter.

3. Show the path to Paradise and warn against Hell.

4. Serve as a proof against mankind, leaving no excuse before Allah.

5. Provide a model of correct living.

☪️Example of Prophet Muhammad SAW

Grateful for Allah’s blessings:

1. Tolerant (e.g. story of the Bedouin who urinated in the mosque – the Prophet calmly advised him).

2. Practiced moderation, patience, humility.

3. Upheld justice and equality (no superiority of Arab over non-Arab except in piety).

2. Belief in the Hereafter (The Day of Judgement) 🌏

To believe that the world will surely end on a fixed day (al-Qiyamah).

All humans will be resurrected (al-Hashr) for accountability.

Deeds will be weighed: the righteous rewarded with Paradise, the wicked punished in Hell.

1. The Day of Resurrection: the earth destroyed, all resurrected.

2. Accountability (Hisab): deeds presented from the record.

1. Every prophet conveyed the message of belief in the Hereafter. Rejecting it is disbelief.

2. Makes humans conscious of consequences – every action has a result.

3. Instills fear of Allah’s punishment.

4. Motivates people to do good promptly.

5. Gives strength and patience in life’s trials.

3. Belief in Qada’ and Qadar 🕋

🔎Meaning:

To believe that everything happens by Allah’s decree.

Qadar: Allah’s determination before events occur.

Qada’: the realization of that decree at its appointed time.

🖊️Four Pillars of Qada’ & Qadar:

1. Allah’s Knowledge – He knows everything: past, present, future, even what never occurs.

2. Recording – everything is written in the Preserved Tablet (Lauh Mahfuz).

3. Will (Iradah) – nothing happens except by Allah’s permission.

4. Creation – Allah is the creator of all things, including life and death.

Then he (the man) said, "Inform me about Ihsan." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet (know that) He sees you." The Prophet S.A.W.explained that Iḥsān is to worship Allah in this world in the manner appropriate for His presence and His direct observation [of His servant], as if the servant sees Him with his heart, looking upon Him as he worships Him. Meanwhile, in the second part of the Ḥadīth, he explained that “if you do not see Him, then He sees you”. Indeed, it is difficult to attain the level that allows one to worship Allah S.W.T. as though he sees Him. The Prophet informed people that they could seek to attain that level through the knowledge that Allah is ever-seeing. A Muslim who has the feeling of being observed (Murāqabah) will surely strive (Juhd) to beautify his actions to attain Allah’s Love and Pleasure. Eventually, a Muslim who aims to achieve perfection, beautification, and excellence in his submission to Allah S.W.T. due to the feeling of God-Presence is called a Muḥsin. Iḥsān in submission requires one to submit to Allah wholeheartedly. It also requires a total commitment of following the Sunnah of Prophet MuÍammad S.A.W.

The study of concerns expectations of the end of the present age, human history, or the world itself. The end of the world or end times is predicted by several world religions (both Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic), which teach that negative world events will reach a climax.

📌What is Adab?

It derives from the root word : بدأ - to refine, to educate, to discipline. It denotes a habit, an etiquette, a manner of conduct, a custom, refinement, good breeding, good manners, social graces, decorum etc. Adab refers to good manners, morals, and appropriate actions derived from the teachings and instructions of Islam.

📖 Surah Maryam 41–50 (Summary)

This passage tells the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) A.S. when he called his father (Āzar) away from idol worship. The verses show how a child should treat parents with respect and gentleness, even if the parents are wrong.

🔑 Main Points from the Verses:

1. Verses 41–44
   Ibrahim speaks to his father with “Yā Abati” (O my dear father), a gentle and respectful address. He gives clear reasoning but never uses harsh words.

2. Verses 45–46
   Although his father rejects him and even threatens to stone him, Ibrahim replies with peaceful words: “Peace be upon you”, showing his care and du‘ā for his father.

3. Verses 47–50

🌟 Lessons on Adab (Manners) toward Parents:

• Speak with respect and gentleness, even when parents are mistaken.

• Never raise your voice or insult them, even in disagreement.

• Always pray for their goodness and guidance.

• Be patient in giving advice, with wisdom and kindness.

• Obey parents in good matters, but prioritize obedience to Allah if it conflicts.

✅ Conclusion: Surah Maryam 41–50 shows that children must uphold adab with parents in all situations. Prophet Ibrahim A.S. is the best example. He remained gentle, respectful, and prayerful toward his father despite rejection and hostility.

The title of our usrah today is “Appreciation for the Nature and Environment & Sustainability in Islam.”

This topic is important because Islam is not only a religion of worship — it is also a religion that teaches us to care for the environment, one of Allah’s most valuable creations.

📖 Opening verse:

> “And do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set in order.”

(Surah al-A‘raf, 7:56)

➡️ This verse clearly shows that Allah forbids us from destroying the earth. We must maintain the balance of nature as a sign of gratitude for Allah’s blessings.

🌿 Story 1: Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the Date Palm Tree

The Prophet (SAW) said:

> “If the Hour (of Judgment) comes while one of you has a seedling in his hand, and he is able to plant it before the Hour comes, let him plant it.”

(Hadith narrated by Ahmad)

➡️ Imagine — even when the world is about to end, the Prophet still encourages us to plant a tree.

This shows how much Islam emphasizes caring for the environment, no matter how small the effort.

💧 Story 2: The Prophet (SAW) Forbade Wasting Water

One day, the Prophet (SAW) saw a companion named Sa‘ad using too much water while performing wudu (ablution). The Prophet said:

> “Why are you wasting water, O Sa‘ad?”

Sa‘ad asked, “Is there wastefulness even in wudu, O Messenger of Allah?”

The Prophet replied, “Yes, even if you are at a flowing river.”

(Hadith narrated by Ibn Majah)

➡️ This shows that Islam teaches moderation and sustainability.

Even when resources are abundant, we must still be careful and not waste — having plenty doesn’t mean we can use recklessly.

🕊️ Story 3: Caliph Umar al-Khattab’s Responsibility Toward Animals

Caliph Umar once said:

> “If a donkey were to die of hunger on the banks of the Euphrates, I fear that Allah would hold me accountable for neglecting its right.”

➡️ Early Muslim leaders didn’t only care for people — they cared deeply for all of Allah’s creations.

They knew that every creature has rights, including animals and nature.

🌸 Story 4: Imam Abu Hanifah and the Tree

It was narrated that Imam Abu Hanifah once rebuked a man who cut down a tree without reason. He said:

> “That tree glorifies Allah (does dhikr), and perhaps because of its remembrance, Allah sends blessings upon this area.”

➡️ The scholars of the past viewed nature as a living creation that glorifies Allah.

When we destroy nature, it’s as if we’re disrupting the harmony of Allah’s creation.

Hadith “Innamal a‘malu bin-niyyat”

The hadith “Innamal a‘malu bin-niyyat” means “Actions are judged by intentions.” This hadith teaches that the value and acceptance of any action in Islam depend on the intention behind it, not merely on the action itself. The same deed can be rewarded or rejected depending on why it is done. For example, praying or giving charity for the sake of Allah is considered an act of worship and is rewarded, but doing the same actions to gain praise or recognition from others carries no spiritual reward. This hadith also emphasizes the importance of sincerity, as all actions should be done purely for Allah. It reminds Muslims that even everyday activities such as studying, working, or helping others can become acts of worship if they are performed with the right intention.

The provided presentation outlines the spiritual wisdom (Hikmah) behind the core acts of worship in Islam, using specific Qur'anic verses as foundations. It explains that Salah (prayer) is established to prevent immorality and wrongdoing while serving as a great form of remembrance of Allah. Ṣalāh (Prayer) is obligatory upon every Muslim who is mature and sane. It is valid when its conditions are fulfilled, such as being free from impurity, covering the awrah, facing the qiblah, and performing it within its prescribed time. The pillars of prayer begin with intention and end with salām in the correct order, and prayer is invalidated by deliberate speech, excessive movement, laughter, or loss of wuḍū’.

Wuḍū’ (Ablution) is a requirement for the validity of prayer and serves to purify a person before standing before Allah. Its pillars include intention, washing the face and arms, wiping part of the head, washing the feet, and observing proper order, and it is valid only with pure water and no barriers.

Tayammum is permitted when water is unavailable or cannot be used due to illness. It is performed after the prayer time begins using clean earth, with intention, wiping the face and hands, and following the correct order.

Khushūʿ means the presence of the heart and mind before Allah with calmness, humility, and attentiveness during prayer. It is hindered by worldly distractions and haste, and it is attained by understanding the recitations and striving against the ego. Prayer remains valid without khushūʿ, but its reward is reduced.

Ṣalāh with khushūʿ strengthens a believer’s relationship with Allah by creating a deep sense of submission and sincerity. It nurtures obedience (ṭāʿah) and loyalty to Allah, training the soul to accept and follow His commands with discipline.

It also represents an inner struggle (jihād al-nafs), as the worshipper strives against laziness and distractions. Through consistent, focused prayer, a Muslim develops patience, perseverance, and spiritual strength.

Ṣalāh with khushūʿ encourages muḥāsabah (self-reflection), allowing a person to examine intentions, recognize shortcomings, and seek improvement. This awareness leads to greater mindfulness of Allah in daily life.

In addition, it cultivates ʿiffah (modesty and self-restraint) by preventing sinful and immoral behavior. Prayer performed with khushūʿ shapes good character and moral integrity beyond the prayer itself.

Finally, khushūʿ nurtures tawāḍuʿ (humility), as the act of sujūd reminds a believer of total dependence on Allah. Through this humility, faith is strengthened, the heart is purified, and an upright Islamic personality is formed.

Fasting is an act of worship prescribed by Allah to cultivate taqwa—mindfulness and consciousness of Him—just as it was prescribed for earlier nations. Through fasting, believers practice sabr (patience) by obeying Allah, restraining themselves from sinful actions, and enduring hunger and thirst with discipline. It also nurtures self-restraint, encouraging control over one’s speech, actions, and even inner thoughts, as described by Imam al-Ghazali’s levels of fasting. Beyond personal growth, fasting develops rahmah (mercy and empathy) by allowing Muslims to feel the hardship of the less fortunate and motivating them to help others, especially by feeding those who fast.

Zakah is a compulsory pillar of Islam that purifies wealth and nurtures both spiritual and social well-being. It is not meant to burden Muslims, but to develop righteous individuals who contribute positively to society. Literally, zakah means growth, purification, and blessing, while technically it refers to a prescribed portion of wealth distributed to deserving groups as an act of worship. Zakah reflects Islam’s holistic approach, combining spiritual devotion with social responsibility. Its key virtues include tawakkul (reliance on Allah), as Muslims show trust in Allah rather than wealth, and ukhuwwah (brotherhood), as zakah strengthens unity, compassion, and care within the community. Overall, zakah builds reliance on Allah, reduces material attachment, supports the needy, and promotes social harmony among Muslims
