However, it can also cause tension/stress between the people or environment and myself.

Dichotomy is the idea that two things/ideas are complete opposite or different. There is no in between in a dichotomy, it is the two ideas that are in question that exist. It can also be the idea that everything must belong to one group and if it does not fit in that group it goes into the opposite group.
A couple of simple examples of a dichotomy can include:
Hot and cold
Fan or not a fan (sports, movies etc..)
Is the sky blue?
My experiences with privilege and stigmas

The reason I put several of my master classes in both privilege and stigmas is that each class has both helped and harmed me in different situations. However the only one I found was just harmful in everyway was my SES. It seems that because of my SES things tended to be more difficult, causing me to grow up quickly and figure out ways in I can get more resources available to me. I might not have become super well off but even just not worrying about simple necessities such as food and shelter has a huge impact. Since I grew up in a mostly Hispanic community, being Hispanic was beneficial on-top of being bi-lingual. However, because Spanish was my first language and not English I did struggle a little more in the beginning of my school journey. It also is a stigma because as I moved away from my area the stigma's that came with being a Hispanic women also came, especially in the the branch of military that has the smallest percent of women, the Marine Corps. While yes at the time it was a privilege to be a women especially when it comes to different (easier physical test) it also came with great stigma because of it. My experiences with each master status is continually changing, especially since now people seem to be openly having a conversation and changing the hearts and minds of people. However it is also all circumstantial and you have to consider the different climates of where people are from.

While my experience in the Richmond area is new and might be difficult to fully understand the people I may meet in my social work career. I do think since it is a growing city that my experiences in all the places I have lived will help out with helping being deal with differences and hardships. Since my definition of difference tends to spectrum between learning and argument in this climate, I can help people walk the line and figure out how to learn and argue in a way that helps them grow as individuals and a community. Not all things you learn are good and not all arguments are bad, so in essence there is not such thing as a dichotomy even if it easier to for people to navigate their worlds, it is much more complicated than that. If I can at least provide assistance to ease the differences between people even if its guiding them to services that will help them with their SES or mental health, I feel like its worth it. However I understand that it is way more complex especially with all the different social structures put in place. I just need to keep learning so I can get a better understanding of it all.
