Teachers and staff will conduct the initial screening process for this group. First, teachers and staff are asked to identify students who would benefit from a small self-control group. When teachers identify students who will benefit from this group, the counselor will meet with students to explain the rationale and process. Students will then be interviewed by the counselor individually to determine whether the student would benefit from the group or not. Parents also play an essential role during the initial screening because students must have consent from their parents to participate in the self-control group. If students have permission, they will be placed in groups by grade level. The counselor will provide an alternative solution for students who are not chosen for the group.

This is a homogeneous group of K-2 students who struggle with self-control. Therefore, the groups will be grouped by grade levels.

Stage 1: Every group session will begin with a review of the established ground rules and confidentiality. Since it is complicated to keep confidentiality with group counseling, I will explain the concept of confidentiality and the limits of confidentiality. Students will be reminded that what is being discussed in this group should remain within the group. The group will be advised that if they disclosed personal information about classmates, they could be removed from the group and not benefit from the group counseling sessions.

Stage 2: Students will have opportunities to share examples of times that they were able to show self-control. Students will then engage in activities that will encourage them to work together to develop self-control. Students' progress will be tracked by student participation within the group, as well as teacher and staff feedback.

Stage 3: The school counselor will close the lesson by reflecting on the past six weeks' growth and talking more about self-control in various situations. The students will write a story or draw a picture about themselves about a day they successfully follow a rule that has been hard in the past. After writing or drawing their story, students will take the post-assessment. The students will also celebrate how we have put these skills into practice since working together in a group. The counselor will conduct a post-group follow-up interview with each student to analyze the effectiveness of the sessions and see if students can apply and maintain what they learned during their sessions successfully.

The best leadership style for this group would be participative
leadership because it allows the counselor to not only offer
guidance to the group but to participate within the group. This
leadership style also allows group members to feel more engaged and important to the group (Cherry, 2021).

However, given the nature of the group and the issue of a lack of self-control, at times it may be necessary for the counselor to take on an authoritarian leadership style in order to maintain control of the group.
