What makes it unique is the fact that although the country is facing economic troubles, it still remains exceptional in providing health care. It correlates research with human care closely, which illustrates that there is innovation with great research.

Cuba’s first independence movement came in 1868, when Carlos Manuel de Cespedes freed his slaves and insisted on a revolution against the Spanish. For almost ten years the Guerrillas in Cuba fought against the Spanish in order to gain their own land. A second attempt was made by Jose Mart, a poet, who founded a Cuban Revolutionary Party in the United States. On February 21, 1901, Cuba was finally a free nation, however under the rule of the United States

Cuba entered an unstable phase in 1933 because of the revolts against the current president, Gerardo Machado. He was viewed as a corrupted president, therefore a “Sergeants’ revolt” occurred under Fulgencio Batista assumed power and eventually made Ramon Grau a president until he took over himself in 1940. However, in 1944 Grau took power again with his partner Carlos Prio Socarras’. He too was viewed an ineffective and corrupt, and did nothing for the country .

Fidel Castro at this point comes to light, where he was noticed in an attack on the Moncada Army Barracks in Santiago de Cuba on July 26 1953. He was taken as a prisoner, and eventually exiled. In 1956, Castro conjured up a couple thousand Mexicans to help him with finally controlling Cuba. Since Batista had no support from the people and the government is initially falling at this point, the United States ended its military aid in 1958. On January 1 1959, Batista regime collapsed and he left the country while Castro and his troops took over. The purpose of this movement was to give Cuba a standing government.

Castro's administration at this point had its positives. He gave Cuba a strong welfare system where there is free healthcare and subsidizing households (1960’s-1970’s). Unfortunately, Castro soon began to be un-liked and despised by the Cuban people since like his predecessors he too was corrupted. Many Cubans left Cuba since they did not like Castro, where most settled in southern Florida.

Health Care Delivery Structure:

Healthcare is regarded as a social and human right, to be useful for all the citizens of Cuba. It focuses on the health of the individual rather than monetary reasons. Healthcare in Cuba is a free service, and it is responsible for the state. This means that the population aids in constructing and improves the healthcare system. Health care is available for all supplied by the island. It is completely free, where healthcare service is ready 24 hours a day. Doctors and nurses are available in most neighborhoods, making it super easy to access. The system is divided into 6 hierarchical levels that are under the control of administrative and political departments. The delivery system idolizes the importance of first contact “a patient is difficult to be forgotten.” The government pays for 89.2% of the healthcare costs. Private out-of-pocket expenditure concludes the last 10.8% of costs. Cuba relies very much on donations from multiple countries such as Canada, Europe, Latin America, the United States and Non-governmental organizations. What strategically works for Cuba is the fact that there is Cuban medical personnel around the world, where they learn different ways to seek great medical service.

Although Cuba does have an exemplary health care system, many things can be made better in order for service to be more effective. Although, yes, everyone receives care there is certain aspects the system lacks. For example, sanitary hospitals are an issue. Although in Havanna for the most part has well constructed clean hospitals, the island needs to maintain great sanitation standards across the country. The key is balance, which Cuba has demonstrated that it needs to work on making sure everyone has the same experience in urban and rural areas. This seems to be a major issue, since most of the population lives in urban areas, hospitals and clinics has better standards. However, the issue is being taken care of by opening up small clinics in rural areas, which sanitation is key. Cuba also lacks in having medical equipment that is necessary for certain procedures. Although the medical personnel has adjusted majorly in improvisation of certain techniques, the Cuban medical force understands that care would be much better with the necessary technology.

Cuba's health care system is great and beneficial because it focuses on the treatment of patients from the first contact. Since its economy is essentially in a crisis, it lacks a couple of components that is imperative in the health care industry, such as sanitation. Overall, the country emphasizes the importance of great care, down to patient communication and available resources. Envied by many, the health care system continues to grow, and in the future will stand along as being viewed as successful by many well developed industrialized countries.
