An example from the text would be when the buys were on the run and Dallas didn’t turn them in. 
Another major topic is friendship and love. This is shown throughout the book when they make up after fights and how they are affected once something happens to another such as when Johnny died and Dallas couldn’t live without him so he killed himself. Love and friendship is also shown through Johnny’s letter that he leaves for Ponyboy even though he’s on his last breaths. I think one of the topics SE. Hinton talks about in the outsiders is love. The Outsiders mentions a lot about love such as how SodaPop loved Sandy enough to still want to marry her even though her baby wasn’t his and how Dally loved Johnny so much that when Johnny died he decided that he had to die too. Johnny was Dally’s breaking point and that shows love. All the boys always stood up for eachother  when something went down and even though none of them said it, you could tell they loved eachother. The entire book shows how Ponyboy is maturing or growing up as a human being. In the beginning of the story he doesn’t act as serious but at the end, after seeing what he saw and going what he’s gone through, he is mature and I feel like he would be able to make a living off himself.     One topic is love. Ponyboy, is most interested in showing us the love between greasers and family. Ponyboy loves his brother Darry but things changed when Darry had become a father figure. He's suddenly raising his teenage brothers, and has taken on all of the responsibilities of a parent and Ponyboy can’t really interact with him as much as Soda but knows Darry will always look out for him and Darry’s  only twenty years old. Coming to terms with Darrys position, and seeing How much he loves him, also looks at how Pony loved Johnny enough to fall apart over his death in the case of Johnny lack of love and support lead him to Ponyboy taking care of him and being his friend. So having someone to depend on and having someone depend on him always felt normal.     Some major topics that i found in “The Outsiders” is family,love,and friendships. Friendships is a big thing in “The Outsiders” because the gangs were made out to be friendships and the relationship were friendships before. Love is also a big thing in this story because of some of the friendships and also Sodapop and Sandy. Even though Sandy is pregnant and it wasn’t Sodapops kid he was still willing to take care of the kid because he loved her. He was also hurting when he found out Sandy had to move because of her parents and h was also hurting because she was a love one. Family is also a big thing in “The Outsiders” because the friendships/gangs that they had were like family.
