Presentation: Products could be distributed to senior centers, veterans’ centers, or during a school event inviting community members to Wise Up!

Escape room with electrical theme including the business plan/logistics of running escape rooms;

            Genealogical study using genetic testing, comparing genetic testing companies in a brochure

            Study of the ethics of CRISPR in a letter to the editor or a letter to an official

            Fix-it business (like Shoshana’s workshop) where students learn to fix broken lamps, technology, etc. for the community

            Artistic, small-scale models of Science Fiction inventions—technology we hope to have in the future— or Rube Goldberg machines that actually light up or move in some way displayed  

            Film Festival of excerpts from famous science fiction films as an event in the gym with popcorn with critique of films posted in a video online  

Presentation of Products:  Students could invite friends, family, and the community to a Science Fiction Fair where their artistic small-scale models or Rube Goldberg machines could be displayed, the film excerpts and critiques could be shown, and the escape room could be enjoyed.

Students study energy concepts :  sustainability, electricity/energy production, conservation, renewable energy, a real-world use, innovation, human/environment interactions, literary references/backgrounds, reading/ writing energy topics, energy art, and the historical pioneers of energy.

Project Ideas:  Students choose and create projects based on their driving questions with respect to content. The focus is to have students do the projects; teachers support.

Time Frame:  We prefer semester long if the whole school wants that.

            Research the best international charities and donate pooled student and community money raised to the best one

            Build small-scale models of various housing structures in the developing world

            Build a windmill like the one in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

            Research international women’s issues and create an educational pamphlet for the community

            Go fishing and create a field guide to fishing spots near Lakewood

            Visit a fish hatchery and create a blueprint/proposal for a fish hatchery for a developing country
