Fitzgerald uses music as a way of portraying flow of emotion through his many scenes of the novel, "The Great Gatsby." A significant song was introduced at Gatsby's party in Chapter 8, when Nick, Tom, and Daisy are conversation about how the mysterious Jay Gatz achieved such economic success.  During the scene, Nick thinks about the possibility of another girl showing up at the party that Gatsby could fall in love with and forget about the his undying love for Daisy.

Incorporating music, and emotion , Fitzgerald prefers to add music within the chapters that have a mixture of irony and groovy songs. Kilpsinger (A man who lives in Gatzby's home, known for playing the piano) plays "Aint we got fun" by Van and Schneck on the piano within pg. 95. During this scene,Daisy comes to Gatsby's house for the first time after there split after Louisiana. This is a significant moment that changes the mood of the scene, because it marks a change of plot. Gatsby's weakness is Daisy. In Joe Walsh's song, "Life's been good" he describes the life of an individual who is wealthy but is empty not having real love or things of value. This song is a perfect choice from 1978 that relates to the Gatsby soundtrack. Gatsby has not changed, he still has love for Daisy. Fitzgerald incorporates music, groove, alcohol. parties, wealth, love, and society in his novel. In the 1973 groovy song, "Money" by Pink Floyd, alcohol is incorporated as a result of wealth. If you know Gatsby's character, you know about his parties.
