Christmas in Russia is normally celebrated on January 7th. The date is different because the Russian Orthodox church uses the old 'Julian' calendar.
The Russian word for Christmas Eve is 'sochelnik', comes from the word 'sochivo'.
Kutia is a special dish for Christmas sometimes eaten from one common bowl, this symbolizes unity. 'Vzvar' (meaning 'boil-up') is often served at the end of the meal. It's a sweet drink made from dried fruit and honey boiled in water. Also we have Russian Christmas cookies called Kozulya which are made in the shape of a sheep, goat or deer.
Russia, Yaroslavl

We decorate Christmas trees and celebrate on December 25. We also give and receive gifts at Christmas. Most students also hang stockings and leave a snack and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve. On Christmas day, Santa leaves gifts under the tree and treats in the stockings. We celebrate with a large family meal, drinks, and snacks! It is most people's favorite holiday!
