Chemical communication uses pheromones that trigger a response in from others within that species. These pheromones are used to attract mates, mark territory or food trail, raise an alarm, and there are many other complex things it is used for. Chemical communication is most commonly seen in insects, but can be seen in other animals. An example of this can be ants using pheromones on food to direct the other ants to. You also can see this in wolves when they urine to mark their territory.

Communication isn't just a big role in our life, but also in animals lives. Without communication, many social organisms would parish. Being social allows many animals to form bonds with their species. Species can even bond with other species, just by using a form of communication. Communication is probably the most important part in daily lives all over the world, ranging from humans, to lions, to ants.

The ways of communication changed over time because there were new signals in the body that had changed. There are two different scenarios that support the evolution of communication evolving. The first scenario evolves the receivers began to notice actions of other animals, because it would provide cues on what the other animals would do next. The second scenario is called sensory drive. This involves signals that were viewed as new behaviors or structures that exploits existing sensory behaviors. Note, these were found in the 1950s-1990 by zoologists and biologists.

The main characteristics of communication is the reasons why organisms communicate with each other. It how animals trade information with each other. The signals that these animals send to each other goes through their sensory channels. There are different ways each form of communication works in the sensory channels. Visual communication is very effective throughout the day. Auditory communication is amplitude, and travel. This allows auditory communication to adapt to many different environmental conditions. Both visual and auditory communication travels faster, compared to chemical communication. This is because they diffuse for protection. But they can travel long distances, but will fade slowly. The last form and its signal channel is tactile communication. This is basically just physical touch, which is between the both sender and receiver. Tactile can only be short distances, but is very important for communication with other animals.
