Joseph York was one of the few heroes

He was a sheriff back during the Battle of Ogdensburg

York was taken by the British

Where he was taken to the Johnstown Jail

A few prisoners were let go

York was paroled and returned to Ogdensburg

Lavinia York was Yorks wife

She left the house and took nothing but money and tablespoons

Captain Forsyth attacks villages in Canada

The British become angry 

500 troops cross the frozen St.Lawrence

Headed for Ogdensburgh

The British drive

The Americans back into a retreat

Three brave men decide to fight 

Two end up dead 

The man who survived Joseph York

Continued to fight

Until he is captured

Joseph York’s wife Lavinia

Return’s to find her husband gone

She walks across the ice Canada

And demands her husband back

Many return to Ogdensburgh

To find the only thing that was destroyed 

Were windows.

The Battle of O’Burgh started like this,

Capt. Forsyth attacked Canadian towns,

Stealing what he could. 

Then there was Joseph York,

Who stood his ground and fought the British
They didn’t kill York but only captured him.

His wife, Lavinia York, left their house,

And took the valuables whilst the British shot at the home.

She heard that her husband was caught,

And went on to Canada to get him back.

When the battle was finally over,

Louis Hasbrouck returned to O’Burgh,

But was saddened that it had no marks of the battle at all.

The battle was between Britain and America

Capt.Forsyth and his men attacked villages in Canada

The British walked across the ice

(St.Lawrence River) 

because of Capt.Forsyth

British had 500 soldiers

 Sheriff Joseph York was a brave man he stood his ground the British took him to a jail where he was released because his wife Lavinia demanded him back

The only damage was that all the windows were smashed in the houses and they were ransacked

Wife went to him

Got him back

The British and Americans were fighting

British shot their cannons and broke their windows

The people in Ogdensburgh fled before the battle began

During the battle alot of windows were broken

Joseph York got captured 

His wife had fled with her silver spoons and money before the battle

She went across the river to get her husband and clothes

She didn't get her clothes but she got her husband
