In Rome it was really important for people to have clean water due to the effects of lead poisoning. The website "Science.org" explains that tap water from Rome had more lead in it than the spring waters did, that same website also states that, Romans were drinking from water pipes that contained cooked lead vessels which can cause poisons to enter your body. Another website, "Arstechnica.com" , stated that In Rome, there were about 400 times more lead in skeletons the in the Iron Age. The website further explained that skeletons from the Iron Age contained about 0.3 to 2.8 micro-grams of lead per gram and that skeletons from Rome contained about 8 to 123 micro-grams of lead per gram. The lead was so poisonous it would cause kidney disease, fertility issues, gout, etc.
