Photographers would spend a lot of time with their images, considering composition, lighting adjustments and so on. In the digital age, that intimacy is lost. Images are scrolled through, quickly rated and discarded. Because the editing and post production processes have been replaced by software, the way we view our final images has also changed. Namely,  how rarely images see the light of day in any physical form. Photographs are made to be printed. How much more time and consideration is given to the production of image. Initiatives have been set up and are looking for ways to detect a deepfake video. The University of Albany published research showing that blinking irregularities could be used to sniff out a deepfake video. However, within months, the deepfake community (who have an open-source ethos and share their findings) managed to correct their software to stop the blinking irregularity. Thus creating a continual ‘cat & mouse’ effect.
