Digestive System
May 26, 2021

Our school year is about to end and this is the start of fourth quarter. Ma'am Yutuc said that there are a lot of lessons in fourth quarter. This piqued my interest because I think this quarter will have interesting topics since there a lot of them. Ma'am Yutuc discussed the digestive system. Digestive system contains organs that take in food and liquids and break them down into substances that the body can use for energy and growth. Mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, small and large intestine, rectum, and anus are the parts of digestive system. This is my favorite topic so far because it is easy for me. Also, I learned plenty of things about digestive system when I was an elementary student. After the discussion, we had an evaluation and a pre-requisite activity.

This topic is quite interesting since I never encountered this topic before. This looks complicated for me so I expect a long discussion with ma'am Yutuc. During discussion, I understand it little by little. It was easy to learn for me. I learned that mitosis and meiosis are taking part in cell division. I also learned that mitosis produces 2 daughter cells. On the other hand, meiosis produces produces 4 daughter cells. After the discussion, we took an evaluation and had a summative quiz on Friday.

Genetics and Heredity
June 9, 2021

We learned about genetics this week. I am quite familiar to this topic because I encountered about it when I was surfing the web. I also expect a long discussion because I think it's a complicated lesson. I am not keeping up with the lesson because I did not slept very well. In addition, the lesson is hard to understand especially the topic about punnett squares. It was easy at first because it was 2x2 square. I zoned out when we solved a 4x4 punnett square. After the discussion, our teacher asked us to have another synchronous class on the next day and we agreed. We were asked to solve problems about punnett squares. I think did not do well since I still have difficulties dealing with this topic.

Biodiversity

We learned about biodiversity. Biodiversity is an enormous variety of life on Earth. Biodiversity has three components. They are genetic diversity, species variety, and habitat diversity. I learned that there are different types of ecosystems in terms of biotic and abiotic factors. This topic is easy to understand, I am looking forward to our next lesson.

Biodiversity

In this week, I learned about biodiversity and how to classify organisms. Our teacher gave us an abbreviation about the relevance of organisms. The abbreviation is MRSGREN. MRSGEN stands for Movement, Respiration, Sensitive, Growth, Reproduce, Excretion, and Nutrition. My favorite topic here is when our teacher gave us a pyramid. The pyramid contains Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. As the pyramid goes up, the larger the organisms you can encounter. I also learned how to name organisms. Currently, we are using the binomial nomenclature system. It was fun learning this topic.

Ecology

This is our last synchronous day with ma'am Yutuc so I diverted my full attention to our discussion. We discussed about ecosystems. Ecosystem is a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical organism. We also discussed about food chains and food webs. Food chain is a sequence of transfers of matter and energy in the form of food from organism to organism. On the other hand, food web is a collection of food chains in an ecosystem. Ma'am Yutuc also discussed about the human activities that harms the ecosystem. Ma'am Yutuc ended our school year with her by asking us to turn on our cameras and took a photo of us.

I learned a lot of things from ma'am Yutuc. The topics she discussed are digestive system, cell cycle, genetics and heredity, biodiversity, taxonomy, and ecology. My most favorite lesson here is ecology because animals are more discussed here. I was able to learn more about animals. Inside this lesson, food chains and webs are my most favorite topic. I am able to learn what is the function of creating food chains and webs. I also identified what are the differences between those two.

From first to fourth quarter, I can say that ma'am Genel is an effective teacher. Even though she gives a lot of activities, it makes our grades higher in return. Through every activities that she gives, I was able to understand our lesson more. With the help of doing weekly reflections, I am also able to encounter what should I do to do better in this subject.

Before she starts to discuss, she's preparing a mini game for us. I am very happy even though I am not able to be the first one to answer, at least I participated in her mini game. Every time she teaches, her voice is clear. In addition, she also presents a video lesson for us. Her presentations were detailed but easy to understand and remember.

I will apply these learnings especially to the future. I really want to save endangered and stray animals. Through these learnings, I will be able to know what habitat will suit to them and also the foods that they are eating.

In addition, I will also be able to spread awareness to every people that we are harming every animals' habitat. I will tell to them different ways to help save our mother Earth.

I wish to learn more about genetics since I am still having difficulties dealing with this topic. Fortunately, I understood a little bit on this topic now. In addition, even though this lesson is really hard, it is really interesting. I am able to know what will be the appearance of the offspring of an organism by using the punnett square. I also want to know more about Mendel and his experiment. It was really amazing that he was called the Father of Genetics.

This quarter is the most difficult but challenging lesson in Science 8. I must say, because i saw extra efforts in her everytime they have tasks and quizzes. Mendelian Genetics & Biodiversity were among the lessons she had difficulties, it shows in her quiz result. Maybe she needs to study more on these lessons. Other lessons she got high scores. Over all, i think she is doing great in Science subject. I must commend all her hardworks and and also to Ms. Yutuc who took all the efforts to reached out to students in order for them to understand the lessons.
