The most important idea in Extinction seems to be how difficult it is to do good things for the environment in the current world. I think this because most of the play discusses reasons why they can't save the tiger quoll (and other species), or highlights problems with trying to do so.

Hannie Rayson seems critical of funding environmentally helpful programs with environmentally hazardous ones - such as taking funding from coal mining to save the tiger quoll. I think this because most of the characters take a significant amount of convincing before accepting to take funding from Harry's coal mining in the Otways.

I believe Extinction was selected for study at Year 12 because it raises important questions and inspires conversation about the extinction of Australian wildlife.

Hannie Rayson seems rather critical of the coal mining business, i think this because it does breach some ethical guidelines.

Rayson seems to value individuals biased ideas and opinions and how they clash and affect other relationships.

I like how Rayson includes the pressures that come along with climate change and the urgency to prioritise the environment and its ecosystems. She may have done this to raise awareness of climate change and the strains it has put on our environment. i like this because it puts this issue into a new and true perspective.

1. I believe Extinction was chosen for year 12 to study because it reflects current issues such as extinction of animals whilst also demonstrating personal conflicts making the characters more three dimensional and giving us more insight, allowing us to demonstrate more analytical skills in regards to the play.

2. Hannie Rayson seems to value the question of ethics. I think this because in the interview she specifically stated that raising ethical questions intrigues the audience and keeps them involved and forming relationships with characters that match the views.

3. Hannie Rayson seems to show critical views in regards to the coal mines once again relating to the ethical underlying reasons .

1 - Hannie Rayson seems to value the importance of the environment and the conservation of extinct animals. I think this because one of the main recurring ideas is the discussion of different perspectives on whether such a small amount of surviving tiger quolls should be conserved. This seems to be a value Rayson holds as the discussion between characters is so nuanced and portrays various different perspectives behind the idea.
2 - Hannie Rayson seems critical of the lack of mass attention and financial support behind the conservation of extinct animals. I think this because one of the most impactful problems in the play is the fact that characters like Heather Dixon-Brown are unable to carry out important research and conservation efforts due to the lack of support in a financial sense and from the general public.
3 - I believe Extinction was selected for study at Year 12 because it's thematic concerns like climate change, the rapid extinction of wildlife in Australia and the lack of support for the conservation and research are relevant to modern day concerns like the climate change crisis that is impacting the world today and the extinction of Australian animals that is impacting Australia's environment currently.

1. I believe Extinction was selected for study at Year 12 because it demonstrates a wonderful portrayal of the prolific amount of animals that were extinct or near extinction. it helped exemplify the Dixon Brown Index and the way Piper was so eager to save the Tiger Quoll.

2. I like how Hannie Rayson is using the stage directions and inner dialogue to raise issues of climate change and show the meaning of betrayal portrayed in a particular way to evoke emotion. We like this because it makes it engaging to read, and allows for audience interpretation.

3. The most important idea in Extinction seems to be the difficulties of the endangered wildlife that is currently happening in Australia. I think this because the play describes the inequities of the apprehensiveness to save the tiger quoll as it was becoming extinct.

1. Hannie Rayson seems critical of the affects of human relationships on the living world and the people around us. I think this because she bases her book around the extinction of the Tiger Quoll and highlights the negative aspects of human influence on the world and how we are detrimental to everything around us.

2. I believe ‘Extinction” was chosen as a year 12 text as it delves into relevant issues to today as many animals in our own current world are going extinct

Hannie Rayson seems critical of the capitalism in society. I think this because she had portrayed the environmentalist characters in the play to be helpless in trying to save all of the endangered species.
I believe Extinction was selected for study at Year 12 because it portrays the moral ambiguity of individuals that becomes present in confronting situations, as well as the present day issues of climate change.
