She has plenty of unfortunate but funny events happen to her while on the trip to make for an awesome story when she returns.

I don't see any teaching points in this book other than to offer another genre of books to keep students engaged in reading.  Read 9/29/2018

It isn't a smooth trip because these 2 sisters can't seem to get along.  After a tumultuous family reunion, things only gets worse when their car breaks down in the middle of the desert, on the way back to San Francisco.  When the girls had to work together to catch their pet King Snake, Mango, they learned how to get along a little better.  

A teaching point for this story would just be about working together and finding a common ground to get along. Read 10/2/2018

In the end, Raina had her braces removed and had learned, along the way, who her real friends were.

This is a book of life lessons for adolescents and what is to come for those who have not quite reached that age.  This book could prompt a lot of conversation about trust, friendships, self-care and self-love.

Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust.  They work together to help Riley navigate the highs and lows of life while showing its not possible to always be happy and thats okay.  

Teaching moments would include acknowledging different emotions and feelings while discussing what are appropriate and inappropriate reaction. Its another book to open discussions of life's problems and options to navigate them without being emotionally involved in them yet. Read 9/4/2018

Since Jenny had been so nasty to Shannon, previously, she was not allowed to be part of that group.
