In this Quran, Ayah markers consist of gold six-petalled rosette marks that are surrounded by blue and red dots that separate each verse in the text in a cursive script called naskh. This Qur'an was produced between the 14th and 15th centuries in Mamluk Egypt. Its script and illumination are characteristic of the Qur'ans from that period.

https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2014/03/taking-a-closer-look-at-arabic-calligraphy/

https://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/h?intldl/ascsbib:@field(DOCID+@lit(ascs000123))

This timeline shows how Arabic calligraphy evolved and emerged through using Christian and Islamic dating systems. There’s six types of calligraphy styles: Kufic or Kufi → 7th century, Naskh → 9th century, Thuluth→ 9th century, Ta’liq→ 13th century, Ruq’ah → 15th century, and Diwani → 15th century. Those calligraphy styles are used for decoration of architectures, writing and aesthetic purposes.

Reference: Alotaibi, Noura.

I realized that a wood stick is better than an ice cream stick. A wood stick has more strong and sharp letters. An ice cream stick seems hard, but it wasn’t really hard. However, there’s disadvantage to using wood and ice cream sticks. Because both materials are wood, and those materials absorb ink(Bamboo doesn't absorb ink). That’s why I used a lot of ink.

In general, this is my first time to use a ruler and graph paper for drawing Kufic calligraphy style, and I understood the characteristics of Kufic calligraphy style. For example, Kufic calligraphy has angular letters, horizontal format, and thick extended strokes. This method is easy to learn Kufic calligraphy style, and if there’s no numbers, it will be hard to draw strokes (height and length).
