This Qur'an was produced between the 14th and 15th centuries in Mamluk Egypt. Its script and illumination are characteristic of the Qur'ans from that period.

    This artifact is a Royal Terengganu Quran 1998.1.3427 dated 1871CE/1288AH. This Quran used Naskh calligraphy, and Sultan Baginda Omar attracted foregin students and artisans to Terengganu during the 1831-1839 period. For the decoration, he used sulur-suluran (vegetal scrolls) and gunungan (mountain-shaped) with red, black and yellow colors

There’s six types of calligraphy styles: Kufic or Kufi →  7th century, Naskh → 9th century, Thuluth→ 9th century, Ta’liq→ 13th century, Ruq’ah → 15th century, and Diwani → 15th century. Those calligraphy styles are used for decoration of architectures, writing and aesthetic purposes.

    2. Firstly, scooping a bamboo stick, but you need to scooping slowly. If you scoop faster, the bamboo stick will break. 
    It’s like when you are sharpening a pencil. 
    3. Secondly, continue scooping and scooping.
    4. After scooping a bamboo stick, you need to make a nib on the center of the bamboo stick. 
    5. After making a nib on the center of the bamboo stick, you should scooping on the back of the bamboo stick. If you are not scooping on the back of the bamboo stick, it will be hard to write letters.
    6. After scooping on the back of the bamboo stick, you need to cut 40 to 45 degrees. Because Arabic alphabets are angled, so cut like an angle shape.

Lastly, stroke two  should be connected with stroke one, so it is called a “flat tail”. I had difficulties drawing a flat tail, because it was hard to draw like the Nike logo shape.   • In general, all Arabic letter sizes are different. I realized that I should use the same size of strokes, and some letters are small or big. → Next time, I should use the same height and length with same font size (it will not looks different sizes)
  • For the weight, I knew that I used the bold size of all the letters, and it doesn’t look like regular letters. 
  • I used all horizontal strokes→ the readers might not understand and it is hard to read out the Arabic letters.
