Select a sequence of three lessons that you taught in your PGCE 2 practice learning placement.

Analyse your planning of this sequence of lessons, providing a rationale for the decisions that you made. Your analysis should focus on how the following affected your planning decisions:

• the ideas in the module study and from your wider reading
• the wider context of your placement school
• how learning is organised within the school
• your own values and vision for effective teaching
• how you planned to meet the needs of the pupils in this class
• how lesson assessment and on-going lesson evaluations affected the planning of subsequent lessons in the sequence.

Include in your analysis how you planned for progression, differentiation and any relevant cross-curricular skills. (600 words)

Evaluate the overall effectiveness of this sequence of lessons in terms of pupils’ learning, pupils’ motivation and your own vision for teaching, identifying your key strengths and weaknesses. (400 words)

Produce a table summarising examples of both formative and summative assessment that you have both observed and used during your PGCE 2 practice learning. The table should include a description of the assessment approach, its purpose, the context in which it was used and a brief evaluative comment on how useful it was to teacher and pupils. Outline your partner school’s assessment policy and practice. Consider the assessment information available at national, local, school and class level and how this is used by teachers and the school management team. (200 words written in prose)

From your PGCE 2 practice learning, select a different sequence of lessons from the sequence used in Task 1. Aim to feature a sequence with a different year group from that used in Task 1. Describe the assessment strategies you used, giving reasons why you chose them and not others, drawing on your module study and other reading to support your decision-making. (300 words)

Discuss the pupil’s needs with your school’s additional learning needs coordinator (ALNCo) and/or other colleagues with knowledge about the pupil’s needs. Outline the case, indicating who was involved in supporting the pupil and the nature of the support provided. (500 words)

Revisit the subject knowledge tracker in your ePortfolio and update the tracker in the light of the work you have completed during your module study. Ensure that you have discussed your subject knowledge development and evidence with your mentor at mentor session meetings, evidence of this should be loaded into your ePortfolio.

Choose two topics that you identified as areas for your PGCE 2 subject knowledge development. These should differ from those selected for your PGCE 1 EMA Assessment Task 5. Create two spider diagrams, mind maps or flow diagrams to demonstrate your developing subject knowledge. The diagrams must summarise the key concepts and ideas involved in teaching the topics to children in a specific year group. These diagrams are not included in the word count.

Identify a topic that is challenging to teach or for pupils to understand. This can be the same as or different from the topics you featured in your diagrams. This might include a topic for which there are commonly held misconceptions. Explain one or two approaches that you would use to support pupils’ learning in this topic.

Complete your Standards Development Profile (SDP), reflecting your progress during PGCE 2. Ensure that your mentor or school ITE coordinator has completed the practice learning report in your ePortfolio. Ensure that you save your ePortfolio, so that it is ready to be assessed.

Analyse and evaluate your own learning with respect to knowledge and understanding of how to teach PGCE 2, identifying the most significant changes in your thinking, knowledge and understanding of educational issues and practice. In your answer, identify the critical incidents and activities that have supported your learning, changed your thinking or caused you to act differently. (500 words)

Review your own learning with respect to the development of skills in supporting the use of the Welsh language and digital competence. Focus on one or two challenges in both and how you have overcome these. (300 words)
