My plan for this community service project was to dedicate my time to helping the students and staff at Cox Elementary School. My goal is to lend a helping hand at their annual Spring Fling event. By lending a hand, I hope to give the staff one less thing to worry about and allow them to supervise at other areas. As for the children, I hoped to give them a fun time at their school event to give them and their family a memory that they could hold on. Some people that helped me in this project was my friend named Joanna. She is a board member of KIWIN'S and she really helped me get an understanding of how the event was going to go and helped me get organized. Another person that helped me was my friend Evelyn. Evelyn and her brother drove me to Elementary and Evelyn gave me someone to talk to during the event.

April 20th: Apply and register for even; The hours were from Saturday at 2pm to 6pm.

April 21st: Inform my parents and find someone that can drive.

April 22nd: Fill out and sign permission slips

April 26th: Find a small bag and pack up items for event.

April 27th: Drive to Cox Elementary, give permission slip and check in with the supervisor, check in with KIWIN'S board members, prepare and start my shifts of face painting.

A connection that I have made during our year is to the video what talks about the importance of servicing the community. The video talks about how giving your time to others leads to so many benefits. In my case, I feel the same way. After helping out, I feel confident and proud of being able to provide people with their needs. Seeing the people's excitement and enthusiasm makes me fill up with joy knowing that I did that.

Another connection that I have made is to The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. After William created his windmill, everyone in his village were super proud of William and happy for him and his efforts that he put in to provide to his village. William also feels achieved for the things he has accomplished with his hard work. I feel a similar way when after finishing a face paint. I would show the students the completed face paint and whenever I did, I saw their face light up and say that it was good. This gave me a lot of confidence and happiness because I was doing something that made others happy. I knew that what I was doing made an impact on how their day went.

During my experience, I felt very proud of the work that I did. It may not have been perfect, but I was able to manage to brighten up and make people's days. I enjoyed talking to people and getting to know their stories. Some difficulties I faced were not having experience with face painting as I had never face painted before, I tried my best and tried to work with what I had. Another difficulty was trying to find a comfortable position to paint on the person's face. During the event, we were not provided chairs and so we had to awkwardly bend down or kneel to get to the right height. Additionally, hair was sometimes an issue was it would get in the way. What I can take from this experience is that even though you dedicate a few hours of your time giving to the community, those few hours can really make up someone's day and have a lasting impact in the community. And in the end, it makes me feel proud of the services I've done. It makes me feel like a contributor to society and makes me feel like I am making a difference in our community.
