Source the document by identifying who wrote it, the year, and what type of document is it. Make two conclusions about what you notice about the year of the source and the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act.

Our document is a political comic from Puck Magazine drawn in the year 1882. The publication date of this image shows that it was published the same year as the Chinese Exclusion Act's creation, which is only 5 years after the reconstruction period, coming to prove that although the white Americans have come to accept African Americans in some ways to include them in the painting, they would not take in Chinese immigrants based on the image showing the building of the wall. The year 1882 also is notable because just 5 years after reconstruction, the people began to discriminate against the Chinese population, exploiting the, almost internal, racism, that both white and African Americans had on the Chinese people. Only 5 years after the African Americans were being lynched and being treated how they were, there are now newcomers, and the image depicting the building of this wall that includes the Black community can express the way that some African Americans viewed the Chinese.

The timeline depicts how the Chinese population came to America, and their reasons. Many came because of the recruitment in building the railroads while others seemingly immigrated over because of the war. Just like African Americans, Chinese immigrants were also lynched, which kind of shows that they were also being treated like non-humans. I can also see a lot of fighting and death that happened upon the Chinese peoples.

The Burlingame Treaty helped protect the immigrating Chinese people, they were still heavily abused such as the 17-20 Chinese people lynched in Los Angeles.
