Symptoms and Signs: Both are highly contagious. They give the feeling of something crawling on the skin. With Scabies on the other hand, the most common symptom is a rash that worsens at night. Scabies can be anywhere on the body but in more common areas like the hands, breasts, armpits, waistline, and genital area. Also a sign is the presences of nits.

Patient Screening: Most common is day cares and school. These children need to get treatment as soon as possible. Not life-threatening but highly contagious.

Diagnosis: A visual examination is the most common and easiest way to find lice.

Treatment: To kill head lice, you need to use a special shampoo. Body lice is removed by a special type of soap.

Prognosis: Lice can be anywhere, so clean every cloth to prevent reinfestation.

Prevention: Recommend to no share your grooming materials and be careful you are intimate with.

Patient Teaching: Give patients as much info about how to get rid of this parasite and how to prevent reinfestation. Explain how important it is to clean clothing and bedding.

Etiology: Heredity may be the cause of this condition. Other think the main cause is yeast. For infants on the other hand, the real cause is unknown.

Diagnosis: A skin biopsy may be performed to rule out the possibility of any other disease.

Treatment: Low- strength of cortisone or hydrocortisone cream. When the scalp is involved, the use of nonprescription shampoos that have tar, zinc parathione, selenium sulfide etc can be used. When ots cradle cap a gentle massage can help.

Prognosis: Most cases respond with treatment. If not responding correctly, drug therapy may be needed.

Prevention: No prevention is unknown.

Treatment: Wash the area, and follow that with a special cream.

Prognosis: The agent or the cause must be removed, the response to special drugs are mostly positive.

Prevention: Identify what is causing the harm and stay away from it.   

Patient Teaching: Encourage patients to steer away from what is causing the harm. Instruct them to not itch the area and apply cream.

Prognosis: No cure, and may need treatment for a lifetime, stress may be the cause od reoccurrence.
