Shaker Middle School- Our spring instructional equity rounds are in 2 weeks. Our focus is "How are we engaging black students in high-yield collaborative, differentiated or engaging learning experiences that promote critical thinking and problem solving. We will go into the classroom and look at the task, ways the teacher is facilitating the whole group/small group, teacher discourse, how students are engaging with the task and with each other, and the classroom environment. Since fall rounds we have intentionally having PL's to support teachers using more differentiated tasks/strategies to teach the content. We are hoping to see more of this when we do rounds in two weeks.

Our EIR's focus for this year was teacher communication with black boys in particular. The results actually aligned with what we saw in learning walks and the SLT visit. Teacher communication was more positive. Though we saw a little bit of off-task behavior for with black boys for EIRs, it wasn't enough to become a trend. We saw improved engagement during the SLT visit as well. Yet, still we have much work to do. The resistance to coaching still remains
