- Men get to go off and do what they want whilst the women have to look over the kids or do other household jobs
- Men have more freedom then women
- Men get to make the rules

In the 19th century it was a patriarchal  society so all the men made the choices for the family. 

The father was not involved with the children. He provided for them but the mother was the one interactiing with them.
